We are currently searching for a Director of Product Development to join our team. This position would report to the President/CEO. This position would work with his/her team and other departments to develop the Christmas and holiday lighting lines from concept to product introduction.


Primary Responsibilities


This position would research the market and current trends to develop new concepts for products. Then coordinate product development needs with the Creative Services department and vendors. This position would communicate ideas/concepts clearly, following up on the various stages of development. This position would establish new and nurture existing vendor/artist relationships. This position would negotiate pricing and obtain quote sheets for all products in development. This position would define all necessary components for each product including packaging, display and marketing needs, and coordinate/track the development of products and component materials.


Upon finalizing the line and pricing, this position would determine wholesale pricing for giftware products, based on costs, target margins, past performance of similar products and knowledge of competition. This position is responsible for putting product information into Roman’s computer system, either by utilizing their team or through the automated vendor quote system. This position would coordinate with Purchasing for the final transfer of items into system once all information is accurate and complete. This position recommends to Purchasing when to place sample and initial stock purchase orders.


This position would determine the size and direction of the product line by analyzing the past and current performance of old and existing products. This position would maintain the existing product line by reviewing item performance and determining whether to keep or discontinue existing items. This position coordinates with their team and the Creative Services Department in the development of the catalog, brochures and any printed support materials. This position works with management and showroom to determine overall showroom layout and product placement for Christmas and holiday lighting.


This position reviews daily, weekly and monthly reports and prepares periodic Business Reviews, identifying factors influencing the sales of the product line. This position presents new product introductions and marketing strategies to Senior Management during Concept and Line Review, and to the sales force at trade shows and the annual National Sales Meeting.


Position requirements

  • Ten+ years-experience in product development, with gift industry being a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proficiency in MAC design programs and Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Domestic and International Travel
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business or Fine Arts (related art experience helpful)
  • Hands on product design work; this is not a “managing” position
  • Lead by example and demonstrate personal integrity and ethical behavior
