Info on role: Newly created role where they want to have this person come in as Assistant Controller and promote them to Controller within 12-18 months as the current Controller will be moving on. So will get to learn the ropes from the Controller and then move into that role. Position will get involved with operational GL accounting, technical accounting as well as budgeting, forecasting and planning so it's a very well rounded role.


Job Description:

Assistant Controller


JOB SUMMARY: We’re offering a unique growth opportunity, as an Assistant Controller, to work hand-in-hand with our current Financial Controller to support our accounting and financial processes. You’ll be gaining valuable insight along the way into the organization’s current audit practices, policies, and compliance standards. The ideal candidate is looking to progress their career, and grow into a Financial Controller, at an accelerated pace, within in the next year.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:


The requirements listed below are representative of the essential duties required:

  • Support the annual budgeting and monthly forecasting process and validate reports which need to be provide within a timely manner
  • Collaborate with our internal sales team and other departments to obtain accurate and meaningful data for budget and forecast
  • Create and maintain standard reporting and analysis framework to support management decision making process
  • Manage any ad-hoc reporting requests as needed
  • Participate in month end closing by preparing the monthly report, actual vs budget vs forecast with variance, and provide the analysis for any variance
  • Serve as the technical accounting resource by documenting and reviewing technical accounting assessments and conclusions, in memos for management and auditors
  • Support cash flow and treasury management
  • Maintain bank covenant calculation and debt compliance for various banks
  • Assist with the annual external audit by preparing the audit schedule and closely monitoring the completion progress in partnership with the auditor. Prepare the financial statements package with foot note.
  • Support our external tax team with tax return filings and tax payments for both the US and Canada location
  • Work closely with the annual insurance renewal process including general insurance, cyber, management liabilities, cargo, etc.
  • Ensure all accounting practices are compliant with legal requirements and established accounting principles
  • Collaborate with various teams cross-functionally – Accounting, Operations, HR, Procurement, Purchasing, Logistics, and others.
  • Support internal and external audits, including a year-end inventory audit.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or Economics - Master’s degree preferred
  • A minimum of five years of experience in a high-volume environment, or equivalent;
  • Professional accounting certification: CPA
  • Experience with managing or supervising a team
  • Good understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to provide a high-level overview, while keeping accuracy and attention to details in place.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Capability to streamline and make process improvements to increase the departments efficiency
  • Exceptionally Strong MS Excel and Power Point skills


Good to have:

  • Experience with Info Visual, Synoptics, or DataRail systems
