Structure of Team: Reports to Quality Manager. VP of Operations. Team consists of Quality Manager, 2 salaried engineers and 4 hourly quality techs/auditors that are shift based. Entire quality team based in Chicago. This position is based in Chicago but will be responsible for quality of products for soft tiles. They are manufactured out of Mississippi and some out of Europe and any 3rd party suppliers

This person may also help with products manufactured locally in Chicago facility. Local products are sheet metal. So a metal forming process. Steel coils come in, they do roll forming, punching, finishing, different colors, different prints. They are moving away from manual. Robotics, lots of automation, high volume. Products go into ceilings in airports, hospitals, etc.


Must Have’s: 5 years minimum experience. Engineering Degree (or closely related). High volume mix. Six Sigma – black or green belt or ISO or Toyota manufacturing. Automotive background is good background or any manufacturing process handling discrete products like metal, plastic, ceramic. Good reporting skills in Excel. Over internal and external quality, customer complaints, product development quality. Strong drive – self driven, strong emotional intelligence, can jump in and do the role.


Strong experience with core tools (8D, Control Plan, PFEMA, Gage R&R & Statistics) and they want candidates that are ok being out on the production floor 60-70% of the time talking to operators, etc.


They are highly automated. They are running millions of parts at a time, they'll run 100 million parts a week. Candidates from job shops (custom work where they will run 1 type of cabinet one day and another type of cabinet another day and maybe do 1-2K a day that are packaged) will not work.

  1. Job Purpose & Scope

The Quality Engineer is responsible for overall quality engineering of assigned products He or she will also own Customer Complaints Management process for Sr. Quality Engineer will champion continuous improvement through use of advanced quality tools, LEAN and other industry leading best practices as appropriate to improve quality of products and services. This position is based in Chicago but would require travel (at least 25%) within USA and some international.


2. Key Result Areas and Responsibilities Own and manage Claims and Complaints management system (Customer facing and Suppliers) and work with various departments to drive root cause and corrective actions to reduce claims.

  • Use advanced quality tools, LEAN and other industry leading best practices to solve quality problems and implement effective corrective actions for assigned products and suppliers.
  • Setup and drive improvement in all key KPIs related to supplier quality.
  • Assist Quality Manager to upgrade inspections methods, gage calibrations and data analysis.
  • Assist Quality Manager to setup and drive improvement in all key KPIs related to product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Lead activities to maintain compliance requirements by agencies such as ICC-ES, UL, InterTek etc. Establish routine quality audits as appropriate.
  • Liaise with Operations, Engineering and Quality colleagues from others and producing factories to identify and establish best practices.
