If so, ALBA is the place for you ALBA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and farm training center located in the heart of the Salinas Valley. ALBA creates opportunities for low-income field laborers through land-based training in organic farm management, helping them advance their careers or pursue the dream of farm ownership. 

 

Responsibilities: 

Develop and provide new hands-on organic production training:

  1. Together with Education Team, develop curriculum for intensive field-based organic farming education; 
  2. Lead field courses for a range of audiences that includes youth, college students, and others; 
  3. Track PEPA attendance, grade student assignments, and track graduation requirements; 
  4. Assist with the management of the demonstration field for educational projects; 


Assist with the fulfilling the objectives of ALBA’s Education Team:

  1. Coordinate and provide workshops, trainings and technical assistance for ALBA’s PEPA Course, Organic Farm Incubator, and other initiatives; 
  2. Assist farmers with applying for USDA opportunities, grants, and other opportunities as they arise; 
  3. Assist with outreach and recruitment as needed; 
  4. Apply knowledge and skill to increase the likelihood of success for ALBA’s farmer participants. 

e. Other duties as assigned. 


Desired Qualifications: 

➢ Bachelor's degree in an education or agriculture-related discipline; 

➢ At least 2 years of hands-on experience in organic production; 

➢ Knowledge of commercial-scale vegetable production in the Salinas Valley; 

➢ Ability to carry out projects independently; 

➢ Proficiency in both written and oral English and Spanish; 

➢ Strong sense of initiative, versatility, teamwork and passion for helping others to succeed; 

➢ Ability to maintain positive working relationships with diverse constituencies, including youth, farmworkers, vendors, staff, partner organizations and members of the public; 

➢ Proficiency in the use of computers and software, and the ability to adapt to new platforms; 

➢ Ability to maintain client confidentiality; 

➢ Hold a California Driver’s License.
