The Northern Sierra Partnership (NSP) is a collaborative initiative to conserve, restore, and expand opportunities to enjoy the magnificent natural landscape of the Northern Sierra Nevada, and build the foundation for sustainable rural prosperity. We work with private landowners, public agencies, nonprofit groups, and local communities to:

  • conserve the sweeping natural landscapes that define us as a region;
  • restore the ecological vitality of our forests, meadows and rivers, and the landscape’s resilience to natural disturbance like fire and flood;
  • expand opportunities for the public to enjoy our region’s extraordinary natural assets through recreation and environmental education;
  • support the growth of vibrant rural communities that sustain—and are sustained by—the healthy natural landscapes that surround them.


The Northern Sierra Partnership’s five partners are the Feather River Land Trust, the Sierra Business Council, The Nature Conservancy, the Truckee Donner Land Trust, and The Trust for Public Land. The Partnership has a small San Francisco-based staff that coordinates the Partnership's work including strategic planning, project planning, campaign planning and implementation, public funding strategies, and communications. NSP's fiscal sponsor, Community Initiatives, provides additional services to the Partnership including financial oversight and management, accounting, and payroll, among others. 


POSITION SUMMARY


The Deputy Campaign Director (DCD) guides the implementation of the NSP campaign in five areas: Campaign Planning and Development, Event Planning and Implementation, Communications, Governing Council and Partner Engagement, and Office Management. The DCD's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


Campaign Planning and Development (40%)

  • Works with the President and Partners to plan campaigns and develop the communications materials needed to ensure their success.
  • Works with the President to write and submit fundraising proposals to foundations, major donors, and public agencies.
  • Promptly acknowledges all gifts received by NSP/CI and uploads thank you notes into NSP’s Salesforce database.
  • Maintains trackers for each campaign that reflect current prospects, gifts solicited, pledges made, and donations received.


Event Planning and Implementation (20%)

  • Works with the President and Partners to plan and execute field tours, receptions, the NSP Annual Celebration, and other special events to introduce donors and prospects to the work of the NSP campaign and/or to thank them for their support.


Communications (15%)

  • Works with the President and Partners to plan, develop, and produce written materials for the NSP campaign, including booklets, invitations, campaign progress reports, and other documents.
  • Plans, produces and distributes the Partnership’s quarterly e-newsletters.
  • Plans, manages and maintains the Partnership’s website and social media presence.
  • Oversees maintenance of the Partnership’s GIS database, including the development of new maps as needed.
  • Coordinates the production and distribution of NSP's poster series.


Governing Council and Partner Engagement (20%)

  • Schedules and coordinates tri-annual meetings of the NSP Governing Council, including confirming meeting locations and attendance, planning meeting logistics, prepping AV presentations and materials, drafting meeting notes, and helping the NSP President with other prep and follow-up, as needed.
  • Schedules and coordinates regular meetings of the NSP Partners, distributing meeting agendas and materials, taking notes and following up as necessary with all participants.
  • Coordinates the development and periodic update of NSP’s annual priorities by the President and NSP Partners, as well as NSP’s annual Impact Report.


Office Management (5%)

  • Keeps the Partnership’s San Francisco office fully supplied and operational, with equipment in good working order, files organized, and supplies on hand for current and anticipated work.
  • Supervises seasonal interns.
  • Maintains the NSP photo archive.


The Deputy Campaign Director reports to the President and serves as her right hand in advancing the mission of the Northern Sierra Partnership. This is an exempt, full-time position based in the Partnership’s San Francisco office. The position requires occasional travel to other parts of the Bay Area, Sacramento, and the Northern Sierra Nevada.


BACKGROUND & QUALITIES REQUIRED

  • Two to four years of experience in development, communications, and/or non-profit administration.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in (and/or working knowledge of) the conservation field.
  • Strong computer skills including comfort working on a MacOS platform, Microsoft Office, Salesforce, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Dreamweaver), Google Apps, and other Internet cloud applications. Familiarity with Squarespace and basic HTML is valuable, but not essential.
  • Experience working with adults and/or children in an outdoor setting (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree.

COMPENSATION

Starting salary range $70-80,000/year (compensation commensurate with experience). Includes comprehensive medical/dental/vision insurance, 401(k) match, and generous vacation and sick leave.
