EMPLOYER

Buttonwood Capital Management (“BCM” or the “Company”) is a family office dedicated to stewarding the resources of its founding family and their descendants (together, the “Families”) by providing personalized administrative support, bespoke financial advice and investment execution.


ROLE

This hands-on leadership position is responsible for providing a broad variety of inside and outside home and property maintenance services, as well as total care of the grounds and external property at a private residence in Ada, Michigan. Responsibilities include a majority of hands-on work, as well as leadership of staff members, seasonal workers and outside vendors/contractors, when necessary. This is an exciting and unique role for someone with a background in a property management related field. This position offers the opportunity to work for a single family while collaborating within a small household team and highly pleasant cultural environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Household Maintenance

  • Conduct regular and in-depth maintenance inspections throughout the residence, reporting and responding to findings as appropriate. This includes:

-Identify and trouble shoot problems and issues

-Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance

-Coordinate and oversee major repairs with appropriate contractors, ensuring successful and satisfactory completion

  • Develop intimate working knowledge of and maintain all household systems(security, HVAC, interior/exterior lighting, appliances, recreational equipment, generators, plumbing, and others)
  • Keep accurate record of maintenance items and routines
  • Arrange and monitor regular services such as trash removal, pool mechanical maintenance, carpet cleaning, window washing, painting, exterminators, and other building and property interior and exterior services as needed
  • Regularly inspect house and other building exteriors, including painted surfaces, porches, patios, fireplaces, etc., cleaning as needed or assessing repair needs
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of garages and storage areas, regularly washing garage floors and painting floor/walls as required
  • Conduct regular checks throughout premises to ensure lighting is in working order, replacing bulbs, batteries, etc. as necessary
  • Maintain an adequate stock of miscellaneous supplies, such as batteries, light bulbs, cleaning products, filters, tools, etc.
  • Assist other household staff as needed on a priority basis, including moving furniture, heavy objects, and other special projects


Grounds Maintenance

  • Conduct regular and in-depth inspections of the grounds, including lawn, landscaping, sprinkler systems, walkways, pool, and ponds. Report and respond to findings as appropriate, including:

-Identify and trouble shoot problems and issues

-Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance

-Coordinate and oversee major repairs with appropriate contractors, ensuring successful and satisfactory completion

  • Maintain and regularly clean outdoor fixtures, including eaves, troughs, flag poles, light fixtures, etc.
  • Ensure driveways and walkways are kept in a safe condition, including snow and ice removal
  • Oversee lawn care, including mowing, edging, re-seeding, appropriate irrigation, etc.
  • Oversee landscaping, including review of contractors’ services, weeding, pruning, arranging for seasonal flowers
  • Coordinate with tree service contractor regarding feeding, trimming, and removal of trees, as necessary
  • Maintain grounds equipment, such as tractors, bobcats, mowers, etc., including small engine and oil level maintenance and keeping propane fuel tanks full
  • Ensure recreational equipment is ready for use at all times, making necessary repairs or disposing and replacing items as needed
  • Ensure outdoor grills are cleaned at ready for use at all times
  • Assist the Barn Coordinator, as needed, in caring for all farm animals, including:

-Ensure proper feedings

-Maintain cleanliness of cages, pens and litter boxes

-Gather chicken eggs and collect goat milk, delivering to family


Other Responsibilities

  • Perform special projects and request of Head(s) of Household, such as holiday decorating, errands, preparations for special events, and others
  • Assist in planning, coordinating, and executing special events held on the property
  • Ensure safe and proper use of tools and equipment, including compliance with established PPE requirements
  • Ensure vehicles are ready for use, including interior and exterior cleaning, fueling, stocking with standard items such as water, umbrellas, snow scrapers, etc., and ensuring proper registration and insurance paperwork is in each vehicle
  • Collaborate closely and effectively with the Household Manager and other staff to maintain a positive working relationship with family members and staff
  • Coordinate, monitor, and schedule all outside vendors used for preventative maintenance or repairs
  • Ability to effectively make decisions regarding when it is appropriate to utilize contractors, vendors, and outside services, as needed
  • Proactive in communicating important grounds and household maintenance items with Heads of Household, collaborating with them on solutions when necessary
  • Run errands as needed, including pick-up/drop-off of individuals or cars at airport locations


REQUIREMENTS

  • General mechanical knowledge and basic skill level in trades such as HVAC, plumbing, appliances, painting, building/carpentry, small engines, etc.
  • Previous landscaping/grounds experience, including knowledge regarding proper care and maintenance of lawn, trees, shrubs, flowers, etc.
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and contractors
  • Leadership experience preferred
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to maintain a highly productive work output without immediate supervision
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds to a maximum height of 6 feet, including occasional lifting up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and remain standing and walking on feet for lengthy periods of time
  • Ability to safely operate power machinery and lawn care tools such as mowers, edgers, clippers, Bobcat, snowplow, etc.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions


Other Requirements

  • Responsibilities of the Estate Manager are conducted in a private residence. While an employer/employee relationship exists, it is important the employee is genuinely committed to the goal of the household staff team in positively contributing to a healthy, active, and loving home environment.
