The Fleet Engineer plays a pivotal role in collaborating with the Fleet Director to cultivate a culture of safety and professionalism while ensuring the fleet operates reliably, efficiently, and cost-effectively. This involves leveraging analytical insights, implementing best practices and standard operating procedures (SOPs), assisting with negotiating contracts, managing preventative maintenance (PM) programs, overseeing information systems, and optimizing capital expenditure (Capex) strategies. The role also entails coordinating shop activities that facilitate the setup, installation, maintenance, and repair of equipment, tools, and machinery.


Duties:

  • Procures bulk fuel for job sites, quarries, and plants.
  • Manages records and initiates purchase orders for bulk fuel while remotely monitoring tank levels.
  • Oversees GPS and Telematics systems for fleet management, analyzing maintenance fault codes and device statuses.
  • Maintains contact and relationships with vendors to support on-going partnerships.
  • Utilizes maintenance information systems such as Vision Link and Geotab to generate regular reports and conduct data analysis.
  • Provides senior staff with comprehensive reports comparing billed versus metered fuel card and bulk fuel utilization.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of company policies and safety regulations, promoting compliance and fostering a safe work environment.
  • Prepares and supports Capex Workbooks for equipment quotes and purchases to uphold budget integrity.
  • Assists in equipment disposals and monitors shop spending information.
  • Tracks preventative maintenance hours company-wide to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required, either on a temporary or permanent basis, in alignment with job requirements.


 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in relevant field, or a minimum of 2 years of practical experience, or a combination of relevant experience, training, and education.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, as well as adept in utilizing smartphones and tablets.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, coach, train, and adapt quickly to new challenges.
  • Willingness to travel to various sites as required.
  • Exceptional multitasking skills essential for managing diverse tasks in both routine and emergency situations within a dynamic work environment.
  • Strong technical acumen, organizational prowess, and exceptional written and verbal communication skills are indispensable.
  • Proficiency in effectively communicating with vendors, subcontractors, and supervisors, both over the phone and in face-to-face interactions.
