Power BI Developer

Note: This position is not available for C2C (Corp-to-Corp) arrangements. Due to the nature of government projects, candidates must be either U.S. citizens or Green Card holders.


Job Purpose

The Power BI Developer will be responsible for transforming raw data into valuable and meaningful insights by creating visually appealing dashboards and reports. This role requires a deep understanding of the Power BI platform and its tools. The developer will take full responsibility for the development of business intelligence solutions to support decision-making processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Report Development: Create, maintain, and enhance enterprise and application-level reports using the Microsoft Power BI platform.
  • Design Consulting: Provide design consulting in areas such as Analytics, Data Warehousing, Scorecards, Dashboards, Business Performance Monitoring, and Data Mining.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Offer functional and technical expertise in various data management, warehousing, business intelligence, and Big Data solutions.
  • Data Standardization: Standardize cross-departmental data definitions, KPIs, and calculations.
  • Visualization and Reporting: Develop data visualizations that utilize all Power BI features, including Parameters, Filters, Advanced Charts, Data Connections, Actions, and Dashboards. These visualizations should present complex patterns in an easily understandable format.
  • Process Improvement: Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance the internal customer experience.
  • Custom SQL Development: Write custom SQL queries to extract complex data models efficiently.
  • Liaison Role: Act as a liaison between business stakeholders, developers, infrastructure teams, and project management groups.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schemas while designing, developing, amending, optimizing, and certifying database designs to meet reporting needs.
  • System Monitoring: Assist in monitoring system performance, reliability, availability, and recoverability of the data warehouse environment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Power BI development.
  • Highly proficient in SQL.
  • Highly proficient in developing solutions using Power Platform.
  • Experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Synapse is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, especially when communicating with senior management.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in translating complex concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working with data warehouse teams to identify data dependencies and requirements.
  • Proficient in writing DAX queries and functions.
  • Ability to manage highly confidential materials.
  • Working knowledge of Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management System is advantageous.


Minimum Years of Experience

- Typically, 5 or more years of experience in BI Development.


Required/Preferred Education

- A Bachelor’s degree in business or a STEM field is preferred.


Professional Certifications

  • Must have Power BI Development experience.
  • Nice to have Azure Data Fundamentals certification.
  • Nice to have Azure Enterprise Data Analyst Associate certification.
  • Nice to have Power BI Analyst Associate and/or Certified Business Intelligence Professional certification.
  • Nice to have Agile/Scrum certifications.
