As a drone systems test engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of testing from unit test validation to executing test flights.


The position is hybrid in Portland, Oregon. In-person office and field test site frequency based on testing schedule and customer needs.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with project managers, business personnel, and product managers to understand product features, technical capabilities, define test cases, and test plans


  • Build test environments, conduct testing, submit test reports, include recorded test results, and write comprehensive test reports and other related technical documents


  • Develop testing standards during the research and development process, track test status, and drive solutions


  • Responsible for the formulation of system test plans, design, execution, recording, statistics, and analysis of test cases


  • Assist developers in identifying and resolving issues within the system effectively communicating and coordinating during the testing and development phases


  • Participate in product upgrade discussions and provide suggestions for applicability and usability improvements


  • Write release documents and implement product release tasks


Minimum Qualifications


  • 4 years or more of research and development testing experience related to drone systems


  • In-depth understanding of the R&D and mass production processes of drones, proficient in using defect tracking tools, and familiar with version control


  • Ability to independently set up test environments, summarize and improve testing methods, explore new testing tools and methods


  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, strong hands-on and learning abilities, adept at problem-solving, and motivated by challenging design tasks


  • Able to perform frequent medium lift work (11-25 pounds) and occasional heavy lifting work (25-70 pounds) for moving drones, parts, and test equipment


  • Valid driver’s license for transporting equipment to and from testing locations


Preferred Qualifications


  • 2 years' experience testing embedded Linux and Android small-form-factor & system-on-chip (SOC) designs


  • Proficiency in testing drone control systems and elements such as autopilots and ground control stations. Experience with Pixhawk, Ardupilot, QGroundcontrol a plus


  • Proficiency testing drone sensor payloads such as RGB cameras, thermal sensors, and LIDAR


  • Current Part 107 and 2 years of flight-testing experience of pre-production drone systems with understanding of safe, compliant flight operations


  • Proficient with C/C++ automated integration test tools such as Eggplant, Tessy, Parasoft, LDRA TBrun, or similar


  • Understanding of Linux/Android system log collection and analysis. Experience with log analysis and collection stacks such as Grafana a plus


  • Experience with EVT, DVT, PVT hardware development lifecycle & manufacturing test station data


  • Embedded security test configuration, execution, and test report analysis
