Construction Superintendent

The Axel Group is seeking a Construction Superintendent to join our client’s team out of Essex County, New Jersey. This well-established firm specializes in the civil construction of roadways and bridges. The Construction Superintendent will oversee day-to-day field operation and this individual will play a critical role in ensuring infrastructure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and in full compliance with project requirements and regulatory standards.Monitor active construction sites to ensure work is performed in accordance with approved plans, drawings, specifications, and all applicable local, state, and federal regulationsOversee roadway and bridge construction activities, ensuring proper sequencing, quality control, and adherence to project specificationsDevelop, maintain, and manage project schedules by preparing detailed short-term plans and ensuring all work activities are completed on or ahead of planned milestonesParticipate in meetings with clients, owners, inspectors, and engineers to provide progress updates and address project-related concernsSupervise subcontractors and self-performed crews to ensure compliance with contract terms, safety standards, quality expectations, and schedule requirementsReview and understand extra work and change order billing formats; update project budgets to accurately reflect owner-approved changesCollaborate closely with the Superintendent and/or Project Manager to develop construction means and methods that improve safety, reduce costs, optimize equipment utilization, enhance schedule efficiency, and ensure clear and effective communication with the clientPrepare, maintain, and submit accurate daily reports documenting site activities, manpower, equipment usage, production rates, and overall progressQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is required5-7+ years of experience working as a Superintendent on civil infrastructure projects, specifically roadways and bridgesStrong knowledge of civil construction practices, including earthwork, utilities, concrete, paving, and structural componentsAbility to read and interpret civil plans, specifications, and schedulesProven ability to manage subcontractors, coordinate inspections, and maintain productivity in an active construction environmentStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skillsCommitment to jobsite safety and regulatory complianceExperience working on public-sector or DOT projects is highly preferredBenefits;$100 – 130K Base Salary Health, Vision, and Dental CoveragePTO and Paid Holidays Vehicle Allowance and Gas Card Annual Bonus & Profit Sharing 401K with Employer Match
