Job Title: OpenStack Engineer
Duration: 6-12 months contract (with possible extension or FTE conversion)
Location: Philadelphia and Denver
Contract Type: W2 or 1099 positions only.
Introduction:
We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated OpenStack Engineer to join our Cloud Technologies team. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the CCP Voice/VIVA team, focusing on the Broadworks migration to the OpenStack platform and providing support for other Voice app OpenStack workloads. This role involves active participation in development, maintenance, and optimization of our OpenStack infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the team to plan, test, and execute the migration of Broadworks Voice applications from existing hardware to the OpenStack environment.
- Monitor, optimize, and troubleshoot OpenStack services and infrastructure hardware to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
- Work closely with network and storage teams to enhance performance and integration of OpenStack services.
- Keep updated with the latest developments in cloud computing and the OpenStack ecosystem.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Ansible, Terraform, and Git, to promote automation and repeatability.
- Document technical architecture, configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guidelines.
- Provide consultative direction alongside Engineering project Managers and develop strategies to achieve long-term objectives.
- Engage with cross-functional teams, vendors, and partners to deliver quality products and identify innovative solutions.
- Ensure successful project acceptance, efficient work progression, and smooth transition to quality assurance and operations teams.
- Solve complex problems and identify innovative solutions with a broad perspective.
- Offer guidance for the performance and reliability of various applications and services, and ensure prompt restoration of system failures.
- Participate in failure reviews and provide feedback to prevent future issues.
- Exercise independent judgment and discretion in significant matters.
- Maintain regular, consistent, and punctual attendance, with willingness to work on shifts and provide on-call support as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- 5-8 years of experience in designing, building, and operating OpenStack environments with a focus on high availability.
- 5+ years of proficiency in automation and DevOps tools such as Ansible, AWX, Terraform, and GitHub.
- 5+ years of experience with IP Networks, design, and operations.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with server hardware deployments, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- 8+ years of strong Linux administration skills.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with SAN or CEPH storage systems engineering and/or operations.
- Background in CyberSecurity and Telecommunications.
- Familiarity with HPE/Dell hardware and firmware.
- VoIP and Telco experience.
- Coding proficiency in Python and automation scripting with Ansible.
- Experience in designing, building, and managing Kubernetes platforms is a plus.
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in OpenStack, Ansible, Linux, or other related technologies are highly valued.
