Job Description

We are seeking a skilled engineer to support the preliminary design of substations for renewable energy facilities. This role involves:

  • Assisting in managing electrical engineering contractors for substation design, including defining requirements, reviewing engineering drawings, and managing RFIs.
  • Maintaining and optimizing design criteria and technical specifications for all equipment and construction works.
  • Supporting contractual negotiations with contractors regarding technical areas such as equipment specifications and performance schedules.
  • Conducting engineering analyses of new technologies and coordinating with external consultants for internal assessments.
  • Performing site visits internationally to ensure the quality of substations during construction and commissioning.
  • Developing tools and procedures to ensure design consistency and quality while optimizing costs.
  • Providing consulting support to project managers and other departments, including O&M and Power Marketing.
  • Conducting technical reviews of plant equipment specifications, including transformers, breakers, and SCADA systems.
  • Developing electrical specifications and ensuring alignment with corporate standards.
  • Contributing to the electrical "Safety in Design" process for all projects.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as the company’s safety and environmental standards.
  • Overseeing electrical tests conducted by the construction team and supporting QA/QC processes.
  • Serving as a technical interface for procurement and overseeing factory testing of major electrical equipment.
  • Evaluating electrical equipment proposals and managing quality audit programs.
  • Participating in back feed and first energization to the grid during commissioning.
  • Assisting with the inspection and receiving of major electrical equipment.
  • Following company processes to ensure optimal performance of renewable energy facilities.
  • Staying updated on renewable generation technology through training and professional development.
  • Creating weekly and monthly reports for internal and external stakeholders, including KPI reporting.
  • Performing other related responsibilities as assigned.


Required Skills and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (P.E. license is a plus).
  • 5 years of experience in utility or power plant design preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to train others on complex operations.
  • Familiarity with PV, wind, and BESS systems, including transformers and HV equipment.
  • Experience in large-scale substation design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Knowledge of preparing substation Basic Design packages and conducting EPC Detail Design reviews.
  • Detailed understanding of substation sizing, configuration, and optimization.
  • Familiarity with Plant EPC contracts and technical exhibits.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory and concepts.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information accurately to stakeholders.
  • Professional representation of the company in external interactions.
  • Commitment to safety and operational excellence.
  • Willingness to travel 15% to 30% of the time for domestic and international projects.
  • Capability to work in various environments, both indoor and outdoor.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Bluebeam, ETAP, and AutoCAD.
