Hoag Hospital, a leader in advanced medical care and innovative research, is seeking a Board-Certified/Board-Eligible Functional Neurosurgeon with fellowship training in functional neurosurgery, specializing in movement disorders and epilepsy. Join our thriving Neurosurgery Department at Hoag’s Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute Newport Beach and Irvine campuses, and be part of a team dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and advancing neurosurgical treatment and research.


Key Responsibilities:


Comprehensive Patient Care:

  • Provide state-of-the-art neurosurgical treatments, including Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease, essential tremor, dystonia).
  • Perform advanced epilepsy procedures, such as responsive neurostimulation (RNS), laser ablation, and vagus nerve stimulation (VNS).
  • Special interest or experience with focused ultrasound preferred
  • Deliver individualized care working collaboratively with neurologists, neuropsychologists, and rehabilitation specialists as part of Hoag's comprehensive neuroscience team.

Research and Innovation:

  • Design and lead clinical and translational research initiatives focused on improving outcomes in functional neurosurgery.
  • Collaborate with Hoag's research institutes and external partners to develop innovative neurosurgical techniques and technologies.

Educational Leadership:

  • Develop and mentor fellows as part of Hoag's commitment to training the next generation of neurosurgeons.
  • Contribute to continuing education for staff and community providers, enhancing the understanding and application of functional neurosurgery advancements.

Program Development:

  • Support the growth of Hoag’s functional neurosurgery program, enhancing its reputation as a center of excellence for movement disorders and epilepsy.
  • Work with administrative and clinical leadership to implement new protocols, technologies, and treatment modalities.


Qualifications:


Educational Background:

  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited neurosurgery residency program.
  • Fellowship training in functional neurosurgery with a focus on movement disorders and epilepsy.

Certification:

  • Board-certified or board-eligible in neurosurgery.


Clinical Expertise:

  • Proficient in advanced functional neurosurgical techniques, including DBS, RNS, VNS, FUS and other neuromodulation therapies.
  • Experience in managing complex cases within a multidisciplinary care model.

Research Acumen:

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish high-impact research in functional neurosurgery.
  • Interest in collaborating with institutional research initiatives and external industry partners.
