On Line Design is currently assisting our client in Hebron, KY for a direct hire Microbiologist with Probiotic expertise. Work is 100% on-site. Must be U.S. Authorized. The client may be open to relocation but must be U.S. Based domestic moves only.


Job Summary:

The Microbiologist will be responsible for the research, development, and quality assurance of probiotic strains and products. The role involves working in a laboratory setting to isolate, identify, and characterize microbial strains, as well as developing and validating microbiological methods. The microbiologist will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, scalability, and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.


Position Responsibilities:

Research & Development:

· Develop probiotic strains specific to the needs of drying process.

· Characterize microbial strains using techniques such as PCR, sequencing, and phenotypic analysis.

· Work with internal and external analytical methods to prove viability of end product quality through UHPLC and flow cytometry.

· Develop and optimize culture methods for the growth and maintenance of probiotic strains.

· Conduct in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate the efficacy and safety of probiotic strains.

Quality Control & Assurance:

· Develop and validate microbiological methods for the testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products.

· Perform routine microbiological testing to ensure product quality and safety.

· Maintain detailed records of all laboratory work, including protocols, results, and conclusions.

· Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

· Troubleshoot and resolve microbiological issues related to product quality and safety.

Documentation & Reporting:

· Prepare technical reports, research papers, and presentations to communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date laboratory notebooks and electronic records.

· Participate in regular team meetings to discuss progress, challenges, and future directions.


Collaboration & Communication:

· Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product development, regulatory affairs, engineers, and material scientists, to support the development and commercialization of probiotic products.

· Using feedback from testing and results redesign as needed to achieve continuous improvement of strains and process flow.

· Communicate effectively with team members and management to ensure alignment on project goals and timelines.

· Stay current with the latest scientific research and industry trends related to probiotics and microbiology.


Qualifications:

· Education: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field.

· Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a microbiology laboratory, preferably with a focus on probiotics or related fields.

· Technical Skills: Proficiency in microbiological techniques, molecular biology methods, and analytical instrumentation. Experience with bioinformatics and statistical analysis is a plus.

· Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with regulatory requirements and quality standards in the probiotics industry.


Working Conditions:

· Laboratory and pilot settings with exposure to biological materials and chemicals.

· May require occasional travel to conferences, meetings, and external partners.

· Ability to perform laboratory tasks requiring manual dexterity and attention to detail.

· Ability to lift and move laboratory equipment and supplies as needed.
