Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Mid-Level Instrument Designer with experience in SmartPlant Instrumentation to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, drafting, and developing instrumentation systems for various engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client specifications.


Job Description:

  • Develop and design instrumentation layouts, wiring diagrams, and loop drawings using SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI).
  • Prepare and update P&IDs, instrument index, data sheets, and other related documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other designers to ensure design consistency and project goals are met.
  • Support the selection and specification of instrumentation devices such as transmitters, controllers, and analyzers.
  • Conduct field verifications and support installation activities as needed.
  • Review and revise designs based on client feedback, engineering changes, and project requirements.
  • Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with other departments (mechanical, electrical, etc.) to ensure seamless integration of instrumentation systems.
  • Assist in the preparation of material take-offs and bill of materials (BOMs).
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on design optimization and cost-saving measures.


Skills Requested:

  • Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years + of experience in instrumentation design within the engineering or oil & gas industry.
  • Proficiency in SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) and other design tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of instrumentation design principles, including loop diagrams, control systems, and P&IDs.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, and API.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in the oil & gas, petrochemical, or energy sector.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classification and instrumentation in explosive environments.
  • Familiarity with 3D design tools (e.g., SmartPlant 3D, PDMS) is a plus.
