The Carlisle Group has been retained to find an English Teacher for a Christian School located in the greater Harrisburg area. This school district has two schools. They have approximately 920 students, 120 employees, and have 2,235 graduates. The students who attend this school represent over 100 churches.

The staff at this school district are made up of a community of believers that serve to further the school district’s mission of partnering with families to provide Christ-centered education that sharpens minds, deepens faith, and develops gifts. Job Summary:

As a Middle School English Teacher, you will have a significant impact on the academic development of middle school students. Your role involves designing and delivering engaging English language and literature lessons, fostering a love for reading and writing, nurturing critical thinking and communication skills, and fostering the physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual growth of the student. You should create an environment that encourages students to explore the world of literature, express themselves effectively, and excel in the subject.

  • Professes a strong Christian faith in Jesus Christ and demonstrates regular attendance at a Bible-believing church aligned with the Statement of Faith.
  • Agrees with and upholds the principles outlined in the Constitution of the Christian School
  • Holds a bachelor’s degree in education, English, or a related field.
  • Exhibits a clear commitment to Christian Education and a wholehearted embrace of the school’s vision.
  • Prefer prior classroom experience as a teacher.
  • Self-motivated, dynamic, well-organized, and adaptable individual with a genuine desire to connect with, nurture, and minister to children.
  • Proficient in school educational best practices and effective teaching methods, with the ability to engage and build trust and rapport with the learners.
  • Cultivates healthy and positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and school administration.
  • Willingness to participate in professional development and training as required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development:
  • Develop and deliver dynamic lesson plans and teaching materials that align with English curriculum standards.
  • Customize instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within middle school levels.
  • Incorporate technology and educational resources to enhance classroom experiences.
  • Classroom Management:
  • Establish and maintain an inclusive and respectful classroom environment that promotes active learning.
  • Implement effective behavior management strategies and promote positive classroom conduct.
  • Cultivate a culture of reading, critical analysis, and effective written and verbal communication.
  • Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
  • Regularly assess student progress through various methods, including exams, essays, class discussions, and projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and communicate results to parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school administrators to review and analyze student data.
  • Parent and Guardian Engagement:
  • Foster open and effective communication with parents and guardians to discuss students' academic progress.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
  • Contribute to building a collaborative home-school partnership.
  • Professional Development:
  • Stay current with literature, educational trends, teaching methodologies, and advancements in the field.
  • Attend professional development sessions, workshops, and conferences as necessary.
  • Collaborate with fellow educators to share best practices.
  • Literary and Language Enrichment:
  • Encourage and support students' participation in literary and language-related extracurricular activities.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to students interested in exploring literature, writing, and language beyond the classroom.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, or a related field.
  • Appropriate state teaching certification or licensure; or willingness to get one.
  • Previous experience in teaching middle or high school students, with a focus on English preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of English curriculum standards and effective teaching practices.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Dedication to creating an intellectually stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
  • Proficiency in educational technology for instructional purposes.
  • Classroom management skills and effective behavior intervention strategies.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth.

Physical Requirements:

  • The employee needs to communicate verbally and listen regularly.
  • The ability to stand, sit, and move around the classroom for extended periods.
  • Lifting, bending, and carrying classroom materials and supplies.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written.
