Glocomms is supporting a premier hedge fund headquartered in New York City in the search for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Systems Security Engineer to fortify internal infrastructure and safeguard critical operations. This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of finance and technology, combining advanced security engineering expertise with innovative problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on technologist with deep experience in Linux, authentication systems, secure development, and networking, ready to tackle complex challenges in a dynamic and collaborative environment.


Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Harden Linux systems to defend against sophisticated threats, including implementing mandatory access control (e.g., SELinux, AppArmor) and secure boot processes.
  • Develop and enforce policies for system configuration, patch management, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Conduct forensic analysis of Linux systems to identify and resolve security incidents.
  • Design, implement, and maintain enterprise authentication frameworks, including Kerberos, PKI, single sign-on (SSO), and multi-factor authentication (MFA).
  • Manage key infrastructure components such as certificate authorities (CAs), digital certificates, and key rotation policies.
  • Create, refine, and deploy bespoke security tools and scripts using Python and other programming languages to enhance system monitoring, authentication processes, and incident response.
  • Automate repetitive security tasks and workflows to improve efficiency and reduce human error.
  • Troubleshoot complex interactions between operating systems, authentication systems, and network protocols to ensure seamless operation and security.
  • Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams to embed security into the technology ecosystem.


Primary Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in hands-on engineering work including systems and/or security engineering.
  • B.S. in Computer Science or related technical field from a reputable, accredited university.
  • Expert-level knowledge of Linux systems, including configuration, administration, and advanced troubleshooting.
  • In-depth experience with authentication protocols and tools, including Kerberos, PKI, LDAP, and SSH.
  • Mastery of Python programming, with a focus on building security tools and automation frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including firewalls, routing, VPNs, and protocols like TCP/IP and DNS.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex system-level interactions and troubleshoot performance and security issues.
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices and integrating security into existing codebases.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with high-security environments, such as financial services or critical infrastructure sectors.
  • Familiarity with other scripting or programming languages, such as Bash, Perl, C, or Go.
  • Expertise in advanced Linux technologies, such as namespaces, cgroups, or kernel module development.
  • Advanced certifications like CISSP, GIAC, or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
