Primary Function:
Under the direction of the Director of Health and Social Emotional Learning, provides services that link LTISD students and families with counseling and community resources to promote and support student academic and personal/social success.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Management
- Provide screenings and assessments for students experiencing difficulties at school or home.
- Deliver individual counseling and case management to students ages 4-22, with sessions scheduled weekly, bi-monthly, or monthly.
- Offer counseling for students who test positive in the LTISD Drug Testing Program.
- Facilitate family counseling and/or case management on a regular basis for identified students and caregivers.
- Conduct group counseling as needed across various campuses.
- Collaborate with campus and district staff to advocate for and communicate student and family needs.
- Coordinate, manage, and provide clinical support during district-wide crisis responses, including individual crisis interventions and suicide assessments.
- Assist the Director of Health and Social Emotional Learning with training counselors and administrative personnel on suicide assessment tools and the district-wide crisis plan.
- Provide training sessions and presentations for district employees and community members.
- Maintain and file reports, records, and other required documents.
- Consult with campus counselors and district staff as needed and conduct home visits to address student and family needs.
- Comply with all district and campus regulations while providing outreach and maintaining relationships with community resources.
School Management
- Build and maintain effective relationships with students and parents on an individual and group basis.
- Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and other key stakeholders to enhance their ability to support student success.
School/Community Relations
- Promote and articulate the district's counseling mission and goals to the community, encouraging support in achieving these objectives.
- Address school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs through effective community and parent involvement strategies.
- Serve on school and district-wide committees as required.
Safety and Security
- Assist with the preparation and reporting of state-mandated safety and security audits.
- Keep safety audits up-to-date and attend certification training in National Incident Management System (NIMS) and FEMA ICS training courses.
Other Responsibilities
- Uphold professional, ethical, and responsible behavior in all actions.
- Maintain confidentiality while serving as a role model for district staff.
- Participate in approved professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Counseling techniques and drug education programs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Methods for collecting and organizing data and information.
- Operation of computers and assigned software.
- District and department policies, procedures, and relevant federal and state laws.
Ability to:
- Travel to multiple campuses daily.
- Work independently with minimal supervision.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
- Maintain regular and consistent attendance while managing multiple complex projects.
- Analyze situations accurately and take effective action, meeting deadlines and schedules efficiently.
Education, Licenses & Experience
- Valid Texas License in Social Work (LCSW or LMSW) or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
- Master's degree in Social Work.
- Three years of school district experience is preferred.
Working Conditions
Mental Demands:
- Self-motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, while managing multiple, complex tasks with frequent interruptions.
- Maintain emotional control under stress with the ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing) and coordinate district support functions.
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Lifting/carrying 15-44 pounds; frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and reaching.
- Repetitive hand motions, prolonged use of a computer, clear verbal communication, occasional district-wide and state-wide travel, irregular or prolonged hours as needed.
