This role will support state payment programs for preschoolers and providers. This position follows a hybrid work schedule and is expected to work from our downtown Denver office at least two days per week.

What we're looking for:

We are seeking a detail-driven, financially minded professional who brings an accounting or compliance background. The candidate must be passionate about data quality and have a strong sense of ownership and accountability for their work. The Senior Financial Compliance Analyst will play a critical role in safeguarding public funds by ensuring data and payment integrity, maintaining accurate payment details, and managing reconciliations for several state-funded programs.

The candidate must be able to navigate complex payment eligibility and funding rules, understand and ensure the accuracy of data, and offer analytical solutions for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities:

Data Quality & Reconciliations

  • Maintain clean and accurate provider, enrollment, and payment data in our SQL database; identify and lead ongoing data integrity projects.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly reconciliations for Universal Preschool (UPK) and other grant programs, including determining overpayments, funds owed back to the state or reimbursements.
  • Cross-reference payment data between the database and banking system; investigate and resolve discrepancies to ensure accuracy across both systems.
  • Assist with processing and reconciling payment issues reported by providers, the client, or internally.
  • Deliver accurate and timely reporting to stakeholders.

Compliance & Internal Controls

  • Support program audits, funding requests and adjustments, and program close-out processes.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to prevent fraud and minimize financial risk, such as protocols for collecting banking information and securing distributed payment data.
  • Support the NACHA compliance certification process and become the subject matter expert for required financial security processes. 
  • Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and internal protocols for fund recipient tax information.
  • Contribute to the development of standard operating procedures related to internal controls, compliance and banking workflows, and data handling; collaborate with the technology team to implement additional security measures and support HIPAA compliance efforts.

Tax Information & Process Management

  • Own the end-to-end tax processes for collecting provider tax information, validating Form W-9s, and issuing Form 1099s to payment recipients.
  • Review tax forms for completeness and accuracy; ensure alignment of tax data between our system and the external tax platform.
  • Resolve any tax identification information mismatches or rejections in collaboration with providers and teammates.
  • Prepare annual tax Form 1099s, ensuring up-to-date provider information, accurate payment amounts, and timely filing per IRS deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field, such as accounting, economics, finance, business, or public administration
  • Master's degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, auditing, or compliance – preferably in the public or nonprofit sector.
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and a deep understanding of data management, reporting and analysis.
  • Detail-oriented, passionate about clean data, and experience working with large databases – we use SugarCRM.
  • Self-motivated and proactive problem solver, but not afraid to ask questions.
  • Effective communicator with leadership and peers; able to clearly describe issues and provide regular updates.
  • Comfortable working through the unknowns and delivering results under tight timeframes.

Bonus points for the following experiences or skills, but these are not required

·      Experience providing financial or accounting support for state funding programs

·      Experience with internal and/or external financial audits

·      Experience with data analytics tools beyond Excel (e.g., Power BI, Python, R)

·      Professional interest in AI for funding administration and payment distribution

·      Knowledge of IRS regulations for miscellaneous taxable income

·      Knowledge of NACHA and/or banking security protocols

Pay Rate – $84,000-$100,000 annual salary depending on experience, plus eligibility for our annual bonus compensation plan.
