Senior Data Scientist, Bioinformatics

Hybrid; must be based in San Diego


As a Data Scientist/Bioinformatics Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in target discovery efforts through the analysis of extensive genetic datasets and the development of robust computational pipelines and tools. Your responsibilities will include:


  • Collaborating closely with a diverse team of human geneticists, biologists, bioinformatics scientists, and software engineers to extract insights from large-scale genetic datasets.
  • Independently and collaboratively executing projects focused on deploying scalable data analysis pipelines, innovative software tools, and web applications to support target discovery.
  • Implementing state-of-the-art analytical methods and algorithms, integrating, analyzing, and visualizing complex datasets to extract actionable information.
  • Conducting focused genetic analyses to uncover novel target biology and effectively communicate findings to colleagues.
  • Addressing critical platform/application quality control through thorough analyses.


Requirements:

  • A Master's or Ph.D. degree in bioinformatics or a related discipline (e.g., computer science).
  • Core expertise in data science or bioinformatics
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language, with a preference for Python.
  • Familiarity with Linux command-line tools and bash scripting.
  • Experience with HPC/cloud computing environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Demonstrated experience in processing, analyzing, and visualizing genetic datasets.
  • Strong understanding of applied statistical methods and principles of statistical genetics.
  • Experience with RNA-seq (or scRNA-seq), GWAS data, and other omics data types is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with UK Biobank data or other large-scale biomedical databases is a plus.
  • Full stack development experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
  • Proficiency in version control systems such as Git.
  • Ability to write readable, testable, and SOLID code.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
