Overview

We have an opportunity for an IT Engineer - Data Network Build Engineer to become part of our growing IT Technology Engineering and Delivery team. This role will primarily focus on Design, build and deployment of the Global Network, including wide area, local area and wireless Networks.


We are looking for an experienced and confident individual who will be responsible for the design, configuration and deployment of enhancements to our Global network in response to evolving business requirements. Someone who is technically strong in the design and build of WAN, LAN and WLAN technologies particularly with experience of Cisco, Meraki, SonicWall and Ubiquiti technologies in addition to network monitoring platforms/approaches.


Ideally you will have started your career within an Operations environment and have considerable experience of the day-to-day challenges support teams face. You will have moved into a design and build role and should be able to demonstrate how you now undertake this role with a view minimizing operational complexity.


You will be working collaboratively with the rest of the DTG infrastructure design, build and operate teams, as well as trusted partners and vendors to deliver services to the business units including the support for service integration of new acquisitions.


Experience

Minimum of 5 years of experience with implementation, operations, maintenance of IT Network infrastructure within multi-platform and multi-system Global environments.

Responsibilities

· Design, deployment and configuration of Lab, Office and DC WAN, LAN and WLAN.

· Support the design, deployment and test of Global Network enhancements.

· Support infrastructure/business colleagues with the deployment of infrastructure services across the network estate.

· Ensure all network deployments are in line with build standards and have all associated monitoring and security capabilities installed and operational prior to handover.

· Review of current network deployments and the development/documentation of recommended upgrade paths and options in line with defined standards.

· Management of 3rd line resources (Vendor and deployment support) where required in support network deployments.

· Technical project support for acquisitions and integrations including the review of acquired Company networks and the development of recommended integration scope in line with business drivers

· Technical handover of deployed solutions in a comprehensive and structured manner to the operation function

· 3rd line support where required/requested in support of ongoing incidents

· Post go live hyper care of new network deployments to support effective handover into operations

· Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal customers and external suppliers / partners

· Complete design and build tasks in line with Global design standards engaging collaboratively with the overall TDA function where changes/deviations from agreed standards are required to meet business objectives


Knowledge in the following areas:

· Proven technical knowledge and experience in the design and build of WAN, LAN and WLAN network capabilities

· Experience of Cisco and Meraki Switching and routing platforms across office, lab and Data centre environments.

· Experience of the design, build and operation of various networking protocols (IPSEC, BGP, OSPF, FHRP, WLAN solutions, QoS, DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs, STP technologies and Ethernet switching solutions) across multiple platforms.

· Experience of design, build and operation of various Firewall platfoms e.g. Sonicwall, Fortinet, Cisco FirePower

· Experience of the issues and options regarding implementation of secure networks within and OT environment.

· Experience of defining and operating network access rules within a strongly governed environment built to meet defined industry Compliance rules.

· Experience of Network monitoring and management tools, such as SolarWinds or Zabbix.

· Display technical credibility and independent judgment and decision-making experience on Networking matters.

· Ability to overcome challenges in remote working such as overseas locations, cultural differences, split time-zones to ensure positive interactions.

· Good problem-solving and analytical skills, able to determine the impact of Network issues quickly, combined with sound decision-making skills under pressure.

· Demonstrate planning, documentation, and organisational skills.

· Experience of delivery using IT infrastructure management practices & standards, ITIL / ITSM principles and practices, & change management in large environments.

· Demonstrate understanding of IT security issues in the networking space.

· Clear understanding of the OSI model

· Experience configuring cisco switches (remote, consoleand notepad)

· Experience with port maps, rack elevations, etc.

· Strong multi project ability

· Ability to self modivate through requested products/timeframes

· Understanding of layer 2 and layer 3 switch configuration differences

· Understanding of inter vlan routing/cisco switch routing/cisco

· Understanding of meraki MX and MR products

· Experience with 3rd party MSP/ISP

· Experience with fortigate products

· Strong organization skills



Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.


Further Skills and Qualifications required:

· Excellent analysis and problem solving skills, taking ownership of business requirements ensuring these are resolved to the satisfaction of the customer

· Possess excellent customer communication skills

· Experience of producing and updating technical documentation to a high standard

· Experienced working within ITIL framework particularly around change control

· In an every changing environment, the ability to learn quickly and apply new skills is essential

· Willingness to travel to remote sites as required
