Infrastructure as Code (IAC) is a key component of this role, and you will use Pulumi in TypeScript to set up deployments. You will also manage CI/CD processes across the repository, currently using GitHub Actions and self-hosted runners. Clear and thorough documentation is essential, as is effective communication. You will focus on improving the developer experience (DevEx) by simplifying system builds and service deployments.

Networking and security expertise are critical. You will handle VPCs, internal networks, DNS with Cloudflare, and security measures such as rate limits and WAF rules. While the primary focus is on infrastructure, there is potential to lead efforts in deploying our frontend in the future. You will also support the setup of new systems, like a Rust server on ECS, ensuring developers can easily deploy and manage it.

Key projects will include creating isolated staging environments, setting up end-to-end testing integrations, and establishing comprehensive logging and observability through distributed tracing. You will develop disaster recovery strategies and playbooks to ensure top-tier security and system resilience.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of AWS services, including Aurora/RDS, OpenSearch, ECS, and S3
  • Experience with CI/CD tools, particularly GitHub Actions and self-hosted runners
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills
  • Strong networking knowledge, including VPCs, DNS, and Cloudflare
  • Expertise in security measures, including rate limits and WAF rules
  • Ability to manage and optimize infrastructure for performance and scalability
  • Proactive approach to monitoring and maintaining infrastructure health
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and execution
  • Familiarity with distributed tracing, logging, and observability tools (NewRelic)
  • Deep knowledge of HTTP and networking concepts, including load balancers or web sockets
  • Experience scaling Ruby on Rails applications
  • Experience with Next.js / Vercel
  • Experience with Terraform
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IAC) with Pulumi and TypeScript
