JOB SUMMARY

The IV Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting pharmacy operations by performing technical and operational tasks that support safe, efficient, and accurate preparation, dispensing, and delivery of intravenous (IV) medications. This position ensures compliance with regulatory standards, company policies, and best practices for cleanroom procedures, inventory control, and patient safety. The IV Pharmacy Technician will also support pharmacists in managing workflow, environmental monitoring, and production processes as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Infusion Order Processing: Assist with the intake, verification, processing, and preparation of infusion orders.
  • IV Compounding: Perform sterile compounding of all IV medications and therapies provided by Landmark Infusion in accordance with USP guidelines and company protocols.
  • Product Dispensing and Preparation: Accurately prepare medications for dispensing, label products, and ensure that orders are packed and staged appropriately for delivery.
  • Cleanroom Maintenance: Maintain cleanroom environment, including performing daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks to ensure a sterile compounding area that meets USP standards.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, receive deliveries, and reconcile inventory counts. Assist with maintaining medication stock levels and conducting cycle counts to prevent stockouts and overstock.
  • Environmental Monitoring: Perform environmental monitoring tasks such as sampling and recording data to ensure the cleanroom meets sterility and regulatory standards.
  • Documentation: Record detailed, accurate notes and documentation related to environmental monitoring, product preparation, and production workflow.
  • On-Call and After-Hours Support: Be available for on-call shifts, which may include weekends, evenings, or holidays as assigned.
  • Equipment Use: Operate pharmacy equipment such as laminar flow hoods, automated compounders, and other devices used in the preparation of sterile medications.
  • Quality Control: Follow quality assurance protocols to ensure accuracy and sterility of compounded medications.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to state and federal laws, company policies, and Joint Commission standards for pharmacy operations and sterile compounding.
  • Miscellaneous Duties: Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of training, experience, and competence.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must have a reliable form of transportation.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education and Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through PTCB or ExCPT required. IV Certification required.
  • Experience: At least 2 years’ experience in an infusion or sterile compounding pharmacy is preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Must have experience with pharmacy computer systems, inventory management software, and environmental monitoring processes. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook is preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Licensure: Must hold a valid Pharmacy Technician Registration/License as required by state law.
  • Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record are required for delivery-related duties.

EXPOSURE TO CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION

This role requires access to and management of confidential information, including pharmacy records and proprietary company information. IV Pharmacy Technicians must adhere to all privacy, confidentiality, and HIPAA regulations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Standing for extended periods during the workday.
  • Repetitive use of hands and arms to manipulate materials, use pharmacy equipment, and prepare medications.
  • Manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and physical strength to prepare sterile products, operate equipment, and open, grasp, and manipulate packaging.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance.
  • Ability to climb stairs, squat, kneel, and perform full range of body movements as necessary to maintain stock, clean equipment, and perform other job-related tasks.
  • Visual acuity to measure, mix, and inspect pharmacy products.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The role is performed in a cleanroom and pharmacy environment with exposure to moderate noise, chemical cleaning agents, and other substances used in pharmacy compounding.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required while working in cleanroom areas.
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as part of an on-call rotation.

ALLOCATION OF DUTIES

  • 70%: Preparing and compounding sterile products.
  • 20%: Maintaining cleanroom and inventory.
  • 10%: Supporting production workflow and environmental monitoring.
