Seattle, United States Diamond Peak Recruiting Full time

Overview: As a mechanical estimator, you'll be responsible for accurately assessing and estimating the costs associated with mechanical systems for construction projects. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop detailed cost estimates, ensuring that projects are completed within budgetary constraints while meeting quality standards and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Cost Estimation: Utilize your expertise to calculate the costs of materials, labor, equipment, and other resources required for mechanical systems such as HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), plumbing, piping, and fire protection systems.
  2. Project Analysis: Review project specifications, blueprints, and other documentation to understand project requirements thoroughly. Analyze drawings and technical documents to identify project scope, potential risks, and opportunities for cost optimization.
  3. Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Collaborate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing for materials and services. Evaluate bids and proposals to select the most cost-effective options while maintaining quality standards.
  4. Cost Breakdowns: Prepare detailed cost breakdowns and estimates for various project components, including labor, materials, equipment rental, permits, taxes, and overhead costs.
  5. Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for value engineering to optimize project costs without compromising quality or performance. Propose alternative materials, methods, or design solutions to achieve cost savings while meeting project requirements.
  6. Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties that may impact project costs, schedule, or performance. Develop contingency plans and risk mitigation strategies to address potential challenges and ensure project success.
  7. Bid Preparation: Prepare comprehensive bid proposals and cost estimates for clients, incorporating all relevant project details, pricing information, and terms and conditions. Present estimates and proposals to clients and stakeholders, addressing any questions or concerns they may have.
  8. Cost Control: Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, comparing actual expenditures to budgeted estimates. Identify cost variances and deviations from the original estimate, implementing corrective actions as needed to keep the project on track financially.
  9. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of cost estimates, bid proposals, vendor/subcontractor communications, and other project-related documentation. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies.
