Utility Global is looking to hire an experienced Materials Scientist to play a key role in a dynamic, growing technology company. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in materials science, with expertise in the formulation, testing and optimization of ceramic materials, incl. ceramic sealants. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the development of next-generation ceramics for high temperature electrochemical cell applications. This role will be based in our Technology Center located in Englewood, CO.


Responsibilities:

Formulation and Optimization: Design and develop novel ceramic sealant formulations and/or sealing procedures tailored to specific applications, considering factors such as adhesion, flexibility, chemical resistance and environmental impact.

Material Characterization: Conduct comprehensive characterization and analysis of ceramic materials using a variety of techniques, including spectroscopy, microscopy, rheology, and mechanical testing.

Performance Testing: Evaluation the performance of ceramics and seals through rigorous testing protocols, assessing factors such as strength, durability, and aging resistance.

Problem Solving: Identify technical challenges and opportunities for improvement in ceramics and sealant materials and formulations and develop innovative solutions to address them.

Collaboration: Work closely with a team of scientist and engineers to integrate new materials into new product concepts and applications.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of experimental data, results and observations.Prepare technical reports, presentations, and documentation to communicate finding internally and externally.

Market Analysis: Stay informed about industry trends and developments related to ceramics.



Candidate Profile:


Education Required: Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field

Proven experience in the development and characterization of ceramics and sealant materials, preferably in an industrial R&D setting.

Strong knowledge of polymer science, adhesion mechanisms, and material processing techniques.

Proficiency in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation


Desirable Skills/Training/Certifications

Experience with formulation software and predictive modeling tools

Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to ceramics (e.g., ASTM, ISO)

Expertise in sealing technologies, such as brazing or glass seals.
