ROLE OVERVIEW

Our client is building out the next generation of its Wi-Fi infrastructure, and this role sits at the center of that work. You will join a small, highly specialized engineering team responsible for the core authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) policy systems that power our client's out-of-home Wi-Fi experience -- the technology that seamlessly connects millions of subscribers to hotspots when they leave home.

This is a greenfield opportunity. The team is replacing a legacy MDU (multi-dwelling unit) network platform with a new vendor solution, and they need someone to design and build the AAA policy infrastructure, APIs, and database layer that supports it. Once live, the role transitions into sustaining engineering -- you will own ongoing patching, feature development, and lifecycle management for what you build.

The team is small by design. The group that runs the engineering operation is around 23 people, which means high ownership, real impact, and close collaboration with principals and architects directly.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, and maintain RESTful and SOAP APIs to support system integration and data exchange across the Wi-Fi platform.
• Build and maintain relational and NoSQL database components supporting the AAA backend (Cassandra environment).
• Stand up and configure a dedicated AAA/RADIUS server for the MDU platform replacement project.
• Develop and maintain AAA policies using TAL (Triple A Language) -- training and ramp-up time will be provided for the right candidate.
• Write and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate deployment and minimize production risk.
• Perform ongoing patching, bug fixes, and feature development post-deployment.
• Collaborate with network engineering teams and QA on integration points and release cycles.
• Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Document technical designs, code changes, and operational procedures.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Proven API development experience (REST/SOAP), including design, security, and versioning.
• Database development skills -- SQL fundamentals plus comfort with NoSQL platforms (Cassandra experience is a strong plus).
• Experience working on Linux-based virtual machines in a VMware/ESXi environment.
• Infrastructure automation experience -- Ansible playbook development preferred.
• Comfort learning and working with proprietary or niche scripting/policy languages.
• Experience supporting software through a full lifecycle: build, deploy, patch, enhance.
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills in a production environment.
• Ability to work independently on long-horizon technical projects.

PREFERRED / PLUS SKILLS

• Prior experience with AAA/RADIUS systems or telecom authentication infrastructure (ex-Nokia, ex-Verizon, or carrier/ISP background is a strong signal).
• TAL (Triple A Language) experience -- rare but highly valued.
• Networking fundamentals: routing, switching, basic protocols.
• Wi-Fi knowledge: 802.11 standards, wireless network design or troubleshooting.
• Scripting experience (Python, Shell) for automation.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git).
