Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate preferred


Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of second language teaching research and practice

Skills of instructional coaching • Effective communication and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of K-12 public educational settings in the U.S.

Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment

Bilingual Speaker of Chinese language (Mandarin) and/or Superior Level of Chinese Proficiency

Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

Knowledge of curriculum design and implementation

Ability to interpret data and evaluate instruction projects and teaching effectiveness

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills


Experience:

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience teaching Chinese language at high school level (Five or more years preferred)

Preferred experience teaching AP Chinese Course

Preferred experience in the area of instructional coaching

Preferred experience running/leading summer language camps


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  • 60% of weekly work hours dedicated to Chinese instructional coaching at high school level; 40% of weekly work hours dedicated to office work related to DoDEA Grant, including reviewing of our language portfolios for feedback to teachers on how they could help advance Chinese language proficiency, following up on coaching feedback and professional development targeting aggressive language proficiency growth.
  • Work collaboratively with assigned classroom teachers to establish realistic and measurable objectives related to both the teacher's individual professional development and student learning;
  • Support the continuous professional growth and improvement of teacher instructional skills through coaching and collaborative problem solving;
  • Observe classroom instruction and provide feedback and coaching to classroom teachers to facilitate improvement and innovation. Demonstrate teaching strategies with students in the classroom;
  • Evaluate teacher effectiveness in accordance with established district projects;
  • Plan and provide appropriate staff development for teachers, administrators, and staff;
  • Work with teachers to analyze and interpret student data and use findings to develop and apply instructional strategies;
  • Develop curricular or behavioral support materials as needed
  • Disseminate information regarding current research and significant developments in the area assigned;
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment, and information; 2) Break projects into doable actions and set timeframes;
  • Help prepare budget reports;
  • Monitor project progress and handle any issues that arise;
  • Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants;
  • Work with the Project Director to eliminate blockers;
  • Use tools to monitor working hours, plans and expenditures;
  • Issue all appropriate legal paperwork (e.g., contracts and terms of the agreement);
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation, plans, and reports;
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required;
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy;
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures;
  • All other duties as assigned by the Project Director


Additional Work Demands:

  • Frequent driving to campuses;
  • Travel to program sites and events;
  • Work during summer and some weekends;
  • Work outdoors during summer program;
  • Work under pressure to meet deadlines.
