Winner Recruitment is seeking a skilled Solar Technician for an innovative and growing client in the renewable energy sector. Located in the California area, our client is a leader in sustainable energy solutions, specialising in solar technology and committed to reducing environmental impact through clean energy. This role is perfect for a technician with experience in solar systems who is passionate about renewable energy and committed to high standards of safety and quality.


As a Solar Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of solar panel systems for residential, commercial, and industrial clients. The ideal candidate will be technically skilled, safety-conscious, and able to work both independently and as part of a team to ensure optimal solar system performance.


Key Responsibilities


  • Installation: Install, mount, and connect solar panels, inverters, and other components, following design specifications and electrical codes.
  • Maintenance: Conduct regular maintenance and inspections on solar systems, including cleaning panels and checking wiring and connections.
  • Diagnostics and Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve operational issues with solar systems, including inspecting electrical components, identifying malfunctions, and replacing damaged parts.
  • Electrical System Integration: Connect solar systems to power sources, including electrical panels, and ensure proper grounding and wiring to optimise safety and efficiency.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow strict safety guidelines and utilise appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Documentation: Record and document all installation, maintenance, and repair activities, including test results and performance logs.
  • Customer Interaction: Educate clients on system functionality, maintenance needs, and energy-saving practices, as well as provide clear updates on work progress.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with tracking and managing tools, equipment, and spare parts needed for solar installations and repairs.

Required Skills and Qualifications


  • Technical Certification: Certification in solar technology, electrical engineering, or a related field. NABCEP (North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners) certification is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of experience in solar panel installation, maintenance, or electrical work.
  • Knowledge of Solar Systems: Familiarity with photovoltaic (PV) systems, inverters, and other solar power components.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work outdoors, lift heavy equipment, and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Electrical and Mechanical Skills: Understanding of electrical systems, wiring, and basic mechanical skills related to solar installations.
  • Safety Awareness: Knowledge of industry-standard safety practices, including lockout/tagout procedures and PPE.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and repair solar system issues independently and efficiently.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills for clear documentation and effective customer interaction.


Preferred Skills


  • Diagnostic Software Proficiency: Familiarity with solar monitoring systems and diagnostic software for troubleshooting and performance analysis.
  • Experience with Common Solar Brands: Knowledge of major solar brands and their specific installation and maintenance requirements.
  • Project Coordination: Experience working in a collaborative environment for both residential and large-scale commercial projects.
