Job Summary:

Our client is looking for a Director of Automation Engineering who will lead the strategy, development, and implementation of automation solutions focusing on Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) in the chemical industry.


This permanent role requires an expert in automation technologies, particularly in the areas of DCS and PLC systems. You will work closely with various departments to identify opportunities for automation, improve operational efficiency, and enhance productivity through the effective use of these systems.


Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive automation strategy focusing on DCS and PLC systems aligned with the company's goals.
  • Lead the automation team, providing direction, mentoring, and support to ensure the successful execution of projects involving DCS and PLC systems.


Project Management:

  • Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of DCS and PLC automation projects.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.


Collaboration and Integration:

  • Collaborate with department heads to identify automation opportunities specific to DCS and PLC systems and prioritize initiatives.
  • Ensure seamless integration of DCS and PLC automation solutions with existing systems and processes.


Technology and Innovation:

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest DCS and PLC technologies and industry trends.
  • Evaluate and recommend new tools, technologies, and methodologies to enhance DCS and PLC automation capabilities.


Process Optimization:

  • Analyze current processes involving DCS and PLC systems to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
  • Implement DCS and PLC automation solutions to streamline operations and reduce manual effort.


Governance and Compliance:

  • Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and policies for DCS and PLC automation.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and security protocols.


Performance Measurement:

  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for DCS and PLC automation projects.
  • Monitor and report on the performance and impact of these automation initiatives.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Control Systems Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in automation, with a strong focus on DCS and PLC systems.
  • Proven experience in leading DCS and PLC automation projects and teams.
  • Strong background in DCS and PLC technologies, including systems such as Siemens, Rockwell Automation, Honeywell, Emerson, or ABB.
