The selected candidate will work in a team environment with other engineering organizations performing detailed technical reviews of drawings, specifications and manufacturing plans.

Note: This position can be filled at a Principal Engineer Materials/ Senior Principal Material and Process level.


Responsibilities:

  • Own aspects of materials and process engineering related to testing, process development, and material selection.
  • Approve material and process selection based on program requirements
  • Design and develop new processes for implementing materials related to F-35
  • Rapid prototyping of novel coupon configurations to support production ramp up
  • Support design engineering and production for materials selection
  • Test and characterize materials
  • Implement new processes in volume manufacturing
  • Manufacturing ramp to hit rate and yield
  • Negotiate and request changes, with the customer, to material and process specifications, as well as quality control specifications
  • Develop integrated process experiments to lead key process improvement initiatives and process development to increase efficiency


Basic Qualifications for Principal Material Process Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 3 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of experience
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance


Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Material Process Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a PhD in a STEM discipline AND 4 years of related professional/military experience in engineering
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in one of the following: materials engineering, electrical engineering, chemical engineering, polymer science or other relevant field of study
  • Professional experience with R&D and manufacturing, preferably in the aerospace industry
  • Experience with material selection, such as: Polymers and adhesives, Composites, Metals
  • Experience with testing and characterization
  • Experience with process engineering
  • Design of experiment (DOE) and statistical process control (SPC)
  • Experience with risk mitigation
  • Capable of implementing failure analysis techniques in manufacturing
  • Ramp up rate for high volume manufacturing
  • Yield engineering
