Fund Accountant

OPPORTUNITY

Our client is a private investment firm that focuses on acquisitions and portfolio management for middle market enterprises. Since its founding in the early 2000s, our client has completed more than 50 acquisitions and currently boasts a portfolio that generates over $1B in annual sales and employs thousands of team members across the US.

This Fund Accountant opportunity is a high-visibility role within the organization, reporting directly to the executive leadership team and managing relationships with investors, external audit and tax accountants, as well as internal team members. This role requires in-office presence due to the nature of relationship building in the investment space.

SCOPE OF WORK

• Maintain detailed records of financial transactions related to our client’s investment funds, including contributions, distributions, and investment activities.
• Monitor cash flows within the funds, optimizing liquidity and coordinating fund distributions as needed.
• Identify and assess financial risks associated with fund operations, implementing controls and mitigation strategies to safeguard assets and ensure financial stability.
• Assist in the preparation of fund budgets and forecasts, working closely with investment managers to ensure alignment with investment strategies and objectives.
• Prepare regular financial reports for internal stakeholders, investors, and regulatory authorities, ensuring timely and accurate dissemination of information.
• Review and approve quarterly valuations of all Fund investments.
• Review and understand fund agreements, PPMs, and other documents relevant to fund vehicle investments and their financial reporting.
• Serve as a point of contact for fund investors, addressing inquiries, providing financial updates, and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders. This role will work closely with investors, external auditors, and management team which will require a timely response to all inquiries and ad-hoc requests.
• Coordinate deliverables for fund audits and manage dialogue with auditors during examinations.
• Review Fund tax returns and K-1s
• Maintain strong working relationship with Fund Administrator and Executive team.
• Stay informed about relevant regulatory requirements and ensure that fund activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.
• Meet client deadlines and monitor the quality of client deliverables.
• Lead onboarding of new funds with the fund Administrator, including establishing workflows.
• Prepare timely and accurate books and records, financial statements in accordance with US GAAP reporting requirements and following respective fund documents.

IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• CPA or similar preferred
• 5+ years of work experience in a finance or accounting role. Prefer a minimum of 2 years in public accounting (wealth & asset management, transaction advisory, or similar) or experience with investment funds or financial services.
• Ability to prioritize and manage his/her workload such that deadlines are consistently met.
• The ability to wear multiple hats, demonstrate a strong business acumen, and the ability to make executive presentations to C-Suite Executives and Board of Directors is required.
• Analytical modeling expertise in Excel utilizing pivot tables is required.
• Other skills including analytical thinking, sound judgment and decision making, integrity, confidentiality, initiative/drive, and attention to detail are required.
