JOB SUMMARY: Operate and maintain the wastewater treatment system in a safe and orderly manner to meet the needs of both production departments and the requirements of the City of Attleboro as spelled out in our discharge permit. Produce precipitated powders using all required production and laboratory equipment. Operator must also produce composition mix materials and specialty raw materials as necessary.


2. KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

2.1 High school diploma or GED required.

2.2 Grade 2 Massachusetts state license for industrial wastewater operator


SKILL REQUIREMENTS

3.1 Good record keeping skills.

3.2 Good math and chemistry skills as would be required to maintain a Massachusetts state license for industrial wastewater operators.

3.3 Ability to operate forklift preferred, but training can be provided upon hire

3.4 Effective verbal and written English communication skills.

3.5 Ability to twist, climb ladders, lift, and occasionally push 55 gallon drums

3.6 Ability to follow written standard operating procedures.

3.7 Must be able to withstand exposure to high heat in the summer as well as dust, noise and fumes.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Two years experience in wastewater treatment, electrochemical refining or plating process or other chemical processing experience.

4.2 Experience with wastewater treatment and associated equipment such as pumps, motors, gauges, filters, piping, etc.

4.3 Experience with safe handling of hazardous chemicals, acids, bases, etc.

4.4 One year experience in a chemical manufacturing company preferred but will train qualified person.


TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

5.1 Chemistry knowledge from wastewater treatment, electrochemical refining or plating process or other chemical processing experience.

5.2 Mechanical ability with hand tools, wrenches in order to repair minor faults in pumps, piping, etc.

5.3 Ability to understand and use Omron control/monitoring system

5.4 Ability to use a calculator


TYPICAL DUTIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO

6.1 Follow all safety guidelines as set up by OSHA/Metalor USA.

6.2 Maintain a clean and organized work area.

6.3 Follow all Standard Operating Procedures.

6.4 Monitor and record flow to POTW according to permit.

6.5 Monitor and record flow in pre-treatment system.

6.6 Change filters as needed for bags, cartridges and filter press.

6.7 Operate and maintain various pumps: Centrifugal, air-diaphragm, positive displacement.

6.8 Keep track of supplies (chemicals, filters, spare parts, et.) and restock when needed.

6.9 Maintain inventory and supply of caustic soda and sulfuric acid for WW area and various users.

6.10 Assist other departments in disposing of waste solutions; determine proper place for disposal.

6.11 Collect and prepare samples for testing by internal or external labs.

6.12 Operate and maintain various pH and flow meters.

6.13 Perform routine maintenance.

6.14 Work with supervisor to develop improvements in system operation.

6.15 Perform other duties as directed.

6.16 Reading and understanding process instructions, work sheets, work instructions, and related quality procedures.

6.17 Safely working with chemicals performing analysis as required by process.

6.18 Understanding quality requirements of product and distinguish good material from nonconforming materials.

6.19 Maintaining and calibrating equipment used as required.

6.20 Understanding of Metalor Technologies USA Quality System and material identification methods.

6.21 Performing simple chemical testing such as, but not limited to titration.

6.22 Using the Omron control system for process operations.

6.23 Following all safety policies and procedures, using personal protection equipment as required, while producing product to established processes and quality standards.
