Berkeley, United States Theery Full time

Our client is looking to hire a Senior Histotechnician / Histotechnologist (ASCP HTL or HT certified preferred but not required) with 3+ years of experience in a Histology Laboratory. The ideal candidate should have a broad expertise in histology techniques, including grossing, HistoGel processing, embedding, microtomy, cryo-sectioning, staining, and imaging, with specific experience handling small and delicate samples like organoids.

They can provide training - care a lot more about aptitude, strong work-ethic and willing to grind with them during crunch times

Key Responsibilities

- all shared across the team:

• Grossing, Embedding, and Cutting: Handle extremely small and challenging tissue samples, including organoids ranging from 500 µm. This role requires meticulous attention to detail during grossing, embedding, and microtomy.

• Routine Histology Workflow: Follow the entire histology process, from sample processing to slide preparation, ensuring each step is completed with precision.

• Staining: Perform complex, manually-executed immunofluorescence staining with intricate panels, adapted for the small size and unique properties of organoid samples.

• Imaging and Scanning: Operate our Zeiss Axio Scanner for high-throughput imaging of up to 100 slides at a time. This includes manual adjustments and setting up scans twice weekly during evening hours (estimated 2-3 hours per session). You'll be responsible for ensuring the samples are accurately scanned and the resulting images are ready for analysis by our research scientists.

• Collaboration: Work closely with the scientific team to ensure smooth operations and work hard during high-pressure periods with STAT samples to deliver on tight deadlines.

Experience and Skills:

• 3+ years of experience in a histology laboratory, with strong skills in grossing, embedding, microtomy, cryo-sectioning, and staining.

• Experience with immunofluorescence staining, high-throughput imaging, and handling delicate samples like organoids is highly desirable - valuable but not essential

• Proficiency with histology lab automation systems (slide and cassette printers, cover slippers, and imaging scanners) - valuable but not essential

Ability to work Tuesday to Saturday in a hands-on role - open to discussing schedule if this is not a perfect fit.
