Needham, United States Kudo Biotechnology Full time

We are seeking a highly motivated, scientifically curious, and collaborative scientist to grow our process and analytical development team. The successful candidate will be an integral part of our team, whose aim is to research, develop and advance mRNA manufacturing technology and analytical sciences. This role is primarily a lab-based position, where you will work in a cross-functional team and interface with internal and external stakeholders to accelerate the development effort. This will be a great opportunity to be exposed to aspects of mRNA process and analytical development in a fast-paced, dynamic, and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, design, and optimize research with the aim of exploring and developing improved mRNA manufacturing processes and analytical methods using molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Develop, document, and transfer bioassays (e.g. cell-based in vitro potency assay, reporter gene assay for dsRNA detection) in support of internal mRNA and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) process development efforts and external project execution.
  • Plan and execute studies requiring molecular biology techniques including E. coli cell culture, plasmid preparation, RNA synthesis, and purification with the aim to develop the processes that can be scaled up and transferred to MSAT labs.
  • Perform mRNA production and characterization by conducting bioanalytical assays following established protocols and SOPs and prepare study reports.
  • Perform data analysis, troubleshooting experiments, and recording results in electronic lab notebook. Share data within the team with high quality and clarity.
  • Collaborate across multiple cross functional teams. The ability to effectively communicate within a project team and with external partners is expected.
  • Stay aware of the process technology advancements and new DNA/RNA modalities through publications, presentations, patents, and industry workshops.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biological Science or closely related field with 3-5 years of relevant laboratory experience or MSc with 5-8 years with relevant hands-on experience. Industry experience is preferred.
  • Expertise in molecular biology, cell culture techniques and production of biomacromolecules such as mRNA, plasmid DNA, self-amplifying mRNA (saRNA), proteins, or AAV.
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell-based assay development is required.
  • Prior experience with mRNA process and/or analytical development, gene editing including CRISPR is preferred.
  • Knowledge on gene cloning, expression vector design and optimization, plasmid production is desirable.
  • Hands-on experience in column chromatography, HPLC/UPLC, FPLC, TFF is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a diverse, fast-paced, and multicultural environment.
  • Team player with positive attitude.
