Summary
The Plant Engineer will provide technical leadership as an equipment, system, and product specialist. The Maintenance Engineer is responsible to identify, lead, develop, and execute solutions for line efficiency gains, reliability improvements and productivity improvements through strong business partnership, capacity solutions and continuous improvement efforts.
Primary Focus
- Develop overall plans, including manpower, for major maintenance overhauls, shutdowns, and projects. Develop scope and audit documentation and procedures.
- Support the development, control and tracking of maintenance budgets.
- Ownership of maintenance stores responsible for inventory turns, management of maintenance planning teams, stockroom teams, inventory policy creation and monitoring, tracking and optimization of maintenance working capital.
- Ownership of companywide PM and PM review policy.
- Ownership of companywide maintenance improvement process.
- Coordinate with planning/scheduling, inventory control and maintenance purchasing teams for all repairs, products, work schedules, and meetings. Develop corporate policy to improve planning and scheduling for each location working with plant and corporate resources to define, develop, and audit the process.
- Administer and facilitate training for the enterprise PPM program and parts room inventory for all equipment, building and facilities through the CMMS
- Work with plant teams to perform engineering analyses to determine the root cause of critical and repetitive equipment failures helping to define program method(s).
- Analyze equipment history and the line event data system to identify specific failures.
- Oversee the parts room to ensure adherence to company policies, availability of necessary parts, elimination of obsolete materials and adjustment/optimization of stocking levels. Monitor plant teams to policy and planned improvement goals.
- Establish work measurement techniques and determine the effectiveness and improvements needed for the maintenance departments.
- Maintain equipment and facility documentation/drawings.
- Provide support for assigned projects, troubleshooting and day-to-day activities
- Communicate with Operations teams and vendors regarding equipment issues and capital projects.
- Follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe, quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Food Safety Systems

- Leverage experience and strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with sales, operations, and service.
- Ensure engineering systems used are the best possible to guarantee product integrity, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
- Provides technical expertise and manufacturing support for successful development and manufacture of existing LEDS and CMMS systems or processes.
- Works cross functionally to complete plant projects as needed.
- Supervise and manage internal projects.
- Follow up on projects as required.
- Follow the deadlines and budgets.
- Evaluate the manpower required to complete the project.
- Ensure the quality of the machines.
- Update and improve proposal templates.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Analyze processes as assigned.
· Identify maintenance process opportunities.
· Document engineering and manufacturing procedures as required and create user guides for the maintenance management control systems.
· Coordinates with others to determine problems and implement solutions.
· Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers.
· Manage projects within defined scope, timeline, budget, and acceptance.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree (BSME/MET preferred), or equivalent proven work experience in manufacturing maintenance.
- Minimum 3 years of manufacturing experience.
- Lean / Six-Sigma, TQM training, experience and/or certification a plus.
- Certified Project Manager (CPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus.
- Ability to work on a cross-functional team including sales, marketing, engineering, and field services.
- Position requires ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to work in Microsoft’s Office products (Word & Excel)
- Ability to understand mechanical layouts, schematics and read 2D & 3D AutoCAD drawings.
- Ability to understand, develop, and make improvement to packaging flow and sequence of operations.
- Ability to make connections to similar projects that have been completed in the past.
- Ability to manage priorities.
- Ability to work in a team environment. The position requires collaboration with multiple resources (Engineering, production, management, suppliers, vendors, customers);
- Good communication skills.
- Good analytical and organizational skills.

- Knowledge of the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, or food packaging industry (an asset).
