Position: Onsite 

Hours/Week: 16-24 Hours 

RTR: Attached

Comments: (Part-Time - Weekend days will be required, every other weekend. Shift is 3pm-11pm) + (Start is as soon as possible, preferably before or on 4/8/24) + (Orientation will be 3 days starting at 8:30 am. RN will orient at all facilities and be expected to work at any facility. Regular shifts will begin after that) + No set end date

 1+ years nursing experience required Correctional experience not required Credentials required: Active Rhode Island Nursing License; CPR/BLS; PPD; COVID POV Reliable transportation required as floating between facilities is required Must have background check form completed and uploaded with submission (see attached)

 

• Conducting nursing sick calls and new patient assessments, assessing and formulating nursing diagnoses, and developing nursing goals and appropriate referrals for patients.


 • Providing medical and nursing therapies, health care instructions, and counseling to inmates and families.

• Continually monitor the health status of patients and modify their nursing care plans as the need arises.

 

• Monitoring patients' mental health status and placing referrals to mental health staff as indicated.


 • Working collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team to develop, prioritize, plan, and implement care delivery within the facilities.


 • Administration of medication via multiple routes (PO/SL/Buccal, SQ, IM, IV, and/or Parenteral), document medication administration, and maintain accountability for the safeguard/counts and accountability of medications. o Including starting an IV, administration of IV medications, maintaining an IV infusion pump, determining and monitoring the flow rate, as well as administering medications and other clinical actions appropriate to intravenous therapy.


 • Performing assessments and dressing changes on wounds involving multiple tissue layers and applying therapies to wounds as ordered by a physician.


 • Participating in emergency code responses anywhere in the institution, assessing injuries, and providing first aid and basic life support to inmates and staff.


 • Safeguarding institution keys and securing clinical areas including exam rooms, storage areas, medicine closets, and related areas.


 • Advocating for patients' healthcare needs or the needs of the nursing department to optimize nursing care delivery.


• Observing and reporting any unusual activities of inmate patients or other inmates in the facility.

 

• Documentation of all nursing encounters in the electronic medical record and prepare reports for security as required.


• Performing other related work as required 

• Participation in any required training as they arise


Transportation The RIDOC campus includes 6 facilities that require staff to have reliable transportation. Nursing staff are assigned to one facility per shift with occasional need to rotate between 2 facilities on one shift. Nursing staff will float between facilities based on the needs of the department.
