The Occupational Therapist evaluates and creates a Plan of Treatment consisting of the appropriate exercises, procedures and techniques required to promote effective, safe recovery. They will be responsible for coordinating with any healthcare professionals that are working with their patients and referring patients to specialists when appropriate. The OT also communicates with families and maintains documentation of services in the medical record. The right candidate is a patient, compassionate professional who encourages and inspires their patients to work toward greater independence and recovery.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Be motivated and work productively. Daily, set exemplary standards of ethics and care of the employer’s resources and property; support company philosophies and goals; function as a team player; and help maintain good communications within the department and between the department and others within the facility.
  • Identifies workplace hazards and takes all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize them. Takes overall responsibility for implementation and enforcement of the facility safety plan within the department.
  • Maintains facility productive standards and is aware of hours available to prevent overtime.
  • Conducts physical and psychological assessment of each patient and develops or follows a treatment plan.
  • Assesses home and work environments of patients and makes recommendations as needed.
  • Advises on adaptive equipment to help patients with daily activities.
  • Documents patients’ progress according to approved medical documentation and facility documentation procedures.
  • Evaluates mobility, strength, and current level of patient function, while setting goals to improve in these areas that are scaled to patient abilities and realistically attainable.
  • Reports patient’s progress to patient, patient caregivers and loved ones, facility staff and healthcare professionals involved in ongoing treatment/care of patients.
  • Assists other facility staff members as needed to provide care and create a clean, orderly, and effective environment for rehabilitation.
  • Ensures patient understanding of treatment with good communication and listening skills.
  • Continually seeks to understand and act on patient needs and concerns.
  • Strives to meet patient expectations and gain trust and respect of patients.
  • Treats patients according to treatment plan developed by or as approved by the attending physician.
  • Demonstrates completeness and attention to detail in his/her work.
  • Accurately works with a large variety and/or volume of information and organizes it to meet deadlines.
  • Is creative with new ideas and suggested alternatives to benefit patient’s progress.
  • Conducts effective and appropriate evaluations and treatment interventions and communicates with, supervises and utilizes assistive personnel appropriately.
  • Prepares and submits all required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintains timely filing and completion of required documentation.
  • Works with other therapists to maintain level of care and communication of assigned patients.
  • Evaluates patients within one working day of the physician referral. Develops effective treatment plans and obtains approval for services from referring physician.
  • Supervises Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants in direct patient care and patient related activities.
  • Provides education and consultation and discharge planning to assist with transition to home and needed devices.
  • Maintains absolute confidentiality of all patient and facility information.
  • Fulfills goals toward financial liability of the organization, mission accomplishment (compassion and dignity in living), marketing, and quality of care.
  • Assumes accountability for data contained in employee handbook.
  • Performs other duties and functions as requested by supervisor.


Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or GED. Graduate from a recognized Bachelor’s of Science, Master’s degree, or Doctorate in Occupational Therapy from an occupational therapy program approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association. Current Occupational Therapy license for state of Colorado. Current Colorado OT License, or the ability to obtain one. Remains current in all required training for continued licensing as a Registered Occupational Therapist. Previous experience as an Occupational Therapist, preferably in an extended care facility.


Job Type: Full-time/Part-time, PRN


Pay: $39.88 - $50.02 per hour
