Summary

An Analytical Chemist I will execute all aspects of daily business operations in the Instrumentation Laboratory and assist with technical and non-technical activities. An ideal candidate will collaborate effectively with all team members to ensure that our customers receive on-time and accurate delivery of test results and services in alignment with our quality system requirements.


Responsibilities

Understanding of testing requirements and concepts

Analytical testing according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) using specific and universal analytical instrumentation

Operate and do basic maintenance on analytical instruments (GC-ECD, GC-NPD, LC-DAD, GC-MSMS, ICPMS)

Identify and assist in resolving anomalous events

Maintain accurate records for traceability through all department procedures

Responsible for calibration standards preparation and verification of specific equipment and their accompanying records

Will learn quality control procedures and method development

Document QC data from analytical sequences to be able to calculate control limits


Requirements

1-2 years of work experience working with equipment used in the chromatography or ICPMS laboratory

Proficiency with operation of desktop computers

LIMS, MS Excel, Outlook, Chemstation, MassHunter


Competencies

Pass at least 1 of the following test batches for at least 2 analytical methods in at least 2 laboratory matrices:

1 PT (External or Internal)

IDOC – Blank and 4 laboratory control samples (blank spikes)

Basic Instrument Maintenance

Replace septa, liners, clipping analytical GC capillary columns

Review Sample Preparation and Analytical Documentation

Have been trained by a Analyst III, Lead Analyst, Supervisor, Manager, or Director reviewing at least 50 sample preparation records – all training records retained in the employee training record folder (hardcopy or electronic retention)


Language Skills

Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


Mathematical Skills

Perform everyday math to complete job-related tasks.


Reasoning Ability

Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

The employee is required to sit with repetitive motions of the hands and wrist related to writing and typing at a desktop or mobile keyboard.


Specific vision conditions include close vision reading. It requires the ability to operate a computer and phone. Employees must have reliable transportation.

This job operates in a professional office and laboratory environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally is occasionally exposed to hazardous material, fumes, or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.


Work is performed primarily indoors in an office and/or laboratory setting. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.


The employee will be required to wear all appropriate safety equipment including lab coat and gloves. The employee will operate equipment properly as described in the owner’s manual and according to SOP specifications.

Position Type and Expected Working Hours

Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Travel

The employee may be required to travel.
