Shift Digital is seeking a Platform Engineer, also known as a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE), to join our engineering team. This role is critical for ensuring the reliability and performance of our automotive marketing technology solutions. Responsibilities


Reliability and Scalability


  • Ensure the reliability, availability, and performance of services.
  • Implement auto-scaling, failover, and alerting systems.
  • Work closely with software engineers to design and support scalable and reliable systems.

Performance Tuning


  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Conduct performance tuning, including load and stress testing.

Automation and Tooling


  • Automate repetitive tasks and processes.
  • Develop internal tools to improve the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance processes.
  • Contribute to the selection and deployment of open-source tools and technologies.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC)


  • Lead the transition to Infrastructure as Code using tools like Terraform to eliminate "click-ops."
  • Develop, test, and maintain code for infrastructure provisioning and management.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to integrate IaC into the development and deployment processes.

DevOps Practices


  • Automate build and release processes, ensuring rapid and reliable deployments.
  • Maintain base containers and monitor for security vulnerabilities.
  • Implement and manage secrets management solutions.

Mentorship and Technical Leadership


  • Serve as the go-to technical expert for all matters related to reliability and scalability.
  • Mentor and guide both junior and senior engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve system reliability and performance.

Additional Responsibilities


  • Lead incident management processes, including post-mortems and root cause analysis.
  • Conduct capacity planning to ensure system scalability.
  • Ensure that infrastructure complies with industry standards and regulations.
  • Monitor and optimize infrastructure costs.
  • Work closely with security teams to ensure infrastructure security.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation for system architecture and procedures.

Requirements


Required Skills


  • Strong experience with Microsoft Azure.
  • Proficiency Powershell and/or Bash scripting.
  • Familiar with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.

Desired Skills


  • Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, including CI/CD, containerization, and secrets management.
  • Experience with security monitoring tools.
  • Experience with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog.
  • Familiarity with service mesh technologies like Istio or Linkerd.
  • Experience with chaos engineering tools to test system resilience.
  • Familiarity with GitOps practices for declarative infrastructure.
  • Experience with cloud-native technologies like Helm, Spinnaker, or ArgoCD.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Go for automation tasks.

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role, with a focus on technical leadership in reliability, scalability, or performance.

Location


  • Hybrid (if you live in the Metro Detroit area) or remote full-time positions available.
