WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING
The Director of MIS will oversee the planning, development, and management of the county’s information technology (IT) infrastructure, ensuring that the county’s technology systems meet the operational needs of all departments. This role involves strategic planning, budget management, team leadership, and collaboration with various stakeholders to align IT systems with the county's goals.
Primary Responsibilities of the Director of MIS include:
- Establishes tasks, supervises, plans, coordinates and directs the work of the MIS Department
- Makes purchasing and maintenance recommendations for equipment, software, tools and supplies for the MIS department and other County departments.
- Prepare, manage and present the budget for the MIS Department. Determines purchases made from that budget.
- Supervises and coordinates MIS Involvement with other County and Court departments and agencies. Determines and tasks personnel involvement with each department/agency project.
- Provides aid in gathering data from outside systems for use in County systems.
- Supervises the priority and resolution of all County software, hardware, and outside systems crisis situations.
- Provides oversight of installation and maintenance of third-party software where the department has been previously tasked by management.
- Determines required resources (software, hardware, personnel, etc.,) for requests made to the MIS Department
- Recommends changes in systems, software and procedures to improve County operations.
- Implements and oversees the County computer network. This includes supervision of selection, purchasing, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and security of that network.
- Provides direct supervision to MIS staff. Plan, schedule and direct preparation of programs to process data and solve problems by use of computer: provide direction and feedback; develop, communicate and enforce work standards, department policy and procedure. Makes staffing recommendations within the department including hiring, training, scheduling of workload, distribution of tasks, evaluate performance, recommend hiring, discipline and discharge.
- Investigates and resolves computer software and hardware problems of users; provide direction regarding procedures to locate source of error; determine cause of problem, ie. software configuration, modem, printer, cables, etc.; research problem and find solution; communicate problems and changes needed to programmers.
- Designs logical and physical data bases and coordinate data base development; review project request describing data base user needs; estimate time and cost required to accomplish project; review data base system manuals; create, revise and redefine data base; enter changes to data base dictionary descriptions, to include type, structure and intended use of data within system; develop data model describing data elements and how they are used; create descriptions to explain how program users access data.
- Analyzes data processing requirements to plan data processing system to meet projected workloads; plan layout and installation of new system or modification to existing system; evaluate factors such as number of departments serviced by data processing equipment, reporting formats required, volume of transactions, time requirements and cost constraints, need for security and access restrictions to determine hardware configurations; determined, recommend and plan layout of type of computers and peripheral equipment; specify power supply requirements and configurations.
WHAT YOU WILL BRING
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited university
- A minimum of 10 years progressive experience in the field of computer science
- A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience
- Any combination of education and experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed.

- Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions

Working Conditions:
Work is performed independently in various office environments. Work is performed with frequent interruptions and frequently involves responding to angry and upset individuals. Moderate bending, stooping and lifting up to 20 lbs. is required.
