LifeFoundry is an emerging startup harnessing synthetic biology, robotics, and artificial intelligence to construct and optimize biosystems for the production of value-added chemicals. We are focused on revolutionizing the paradigm of biotechnology R&D with our industry-leading fully-automated biofoundries.

The LifeFoundry Biosystem Engineer position will work closely with research scientists and collaborate with the plethora of multidisciplinary members, including automation engineers, on molecular biology workflows, including the development of new methods, high-throughput biomanufacturing processes, analytical assays, and novel functional microorganisms.

Major duties and responsibilities include

  • Collaborate with research scientists to execute high-throughput molecular and microbial protocols, including but not limited to:
  • DNA manipulations
  • Bacterial and yeast cultures
  • Molecular and chemical analysis
  • Acquire, process, and analyze data as part of protocol execution.
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments, properly process and label samples, and ensure accuracy and precision.
  • Maintaining, ordering, and preparing reagents, consumables, and other supplies for general laboratory support, particularly the high-throughput protocols.

 

Qualifications:

  • BS degree and above in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioengineering, chemical engineering or related fields. 
  • At least two years of wet lab experience, proficient in basic DNA, protein, and microbial operations.
  • Excited to join a fast-paced, interdisciplinary team tackling challenging projects.
  • Self-motivated and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Ability to acquire new knowledge and skills quickly.
  • Comfortable with repetitive tasks and maintaining high accuracy.
  • Self-aware, good communicator, and supportive of an inclusive work environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in E. coli and S. cerevisiae fermentation and genetics.
  • Experience with High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) or other analytical techniques.
  • Experience in high-throughput experimental planning and execution.
  • Experience in performing and optimizing repetitive assays.
