Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Machine Learning Scientist with a strong background in information retrieval and natural language processing (NLP) to help lead our AI initiatives. This role involves designing and implementing advanced machine learning models, with a focus on natural language data, in a high-impact production environment. You'll also oversee one direct report, contributing to both hands-on model development and mentorship.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning algorithms for processing and retrieving information from complex natural language data sets.
- Apply information retrieval techniques to enhance data extraction and content classification, optimizing models for high accuracy and performance.
- Utilize NLP frameworks to build and fine-tune models that drive the startup’s AI solutions in production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate AI-driven features into existing platforms.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to a junior team member, offering both technical direction and professional development support.
- Experiment with and potentially implement symbolic AI and explainable AI (XAI) models to improve model transparency and decision-making processes.
- Continuously improve system performance by conducting experiments, tuning hyperparameters, and optimizing model architectures.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI, ML, and NLP, applying new research to current projects.
Qualifications:
- 4-10 years of experience in machine learning and information retrieval, with a focus on natural language data.
- Proven track record of deploying ML models in production environments with a high level of performance and scalability.
- Expertise in Python, including proficiency in libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
- Familiarity with symbolic AI or explainable AI (XAI) approaches is a strong plus.
- Strong understanding of machine learning pipelines, from data preprocessing to model evaluation and deployment.
- Experience with supervised and unsupervised learning techniques, with an emphasis on natural language models (e.g., BERT, GPT, Transformer architectures).
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, demonstrating leadership and collaboration skills.
