Controls Engineer – Manufacturing Automation Systems

Compensation: $90,000 – $115,000 annually

We're looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to take the lead on automation systems across our industrial manufacturing operation. This position involves hands-on work with PLCs, HMI platforms, and control hardware, along with supporting system upgrades and collaborating across departments. The role is geared toward someone who's confident handling both troubleshooting and control system optimization in a heavy industrial setting.

Primary Duties

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts across programmable logic controllers (PLCs), interface devices, sensors, and industrial instrumentation
  • Update and refine automation logic to improve efficiency and uptime
  • Install and configure new hardware and automation tools during system rollouts
  • Coordinate closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to support equipment improvements
  • Identify and resolve recurring faults or inefficiencies within control systems
  • Ensure all work adheres to safety and industry compliance standards
  • Track and document changes to control software and electrical systems
  • Guide and train technical staff on proper system use and maintenance

Required Experience & Skills

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in a technical field related to Electrical Engineering or Automation; equivalent field experience will be considered
  • At least 5 years of experience programming and maintaining PLC-based control systems in a manufacturing or process environment
  • Practical knowledge of Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or comparable automation platforms
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical subsystems including pneumatic and hydraulic interfaces
  • Skilled at interpreting control drawings, schematics, and electrical layouts
  • Understanding of protocols used in industrial networking (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Profibus)
  • Familiarity with SCADA and HMI interfaces preferred
  • Strong commitment to safety and operational discipline
