About the job


Knightwerx is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our growing R&D team. As a subject matter expert in mechanism design, the Mechanical Engineer will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop small unmanned electric aircraft from the ground up. We operate in a fast-paced development environment that balances innovation and ingenuity with practicality and reliability. You will be involved in every aspect of the engineering process from clean-sheet design and prototyping to flight testing and manufacturing.

Work Experience

·       Bachelor's or higher degree in relevant engineering discipline

·       5 or more years experience developing mechanisms and mechanical hardware

·       Experience with full product development lifecycle from concept development through production

·       Hands-on experience with small unmanned systems or model aircraft desired

Primary Duties and Tasks

·       Take ownership of significant portions of the airframe development process including mechanical design, analysis, fabrication, testing, and production

·       Participate in conceptual design and development of mechanical system architecture

·       Develop trade studies and risk reduction tests to validate designs

·       Work with external suppliers to quote and procure mechanical hardware

·       Fabricate mechanisms, airframes, and test setups using standard prototyping methods

·       Work with management to develop realistic timelines and scope of work to achieve project goals

Skills and Expertise

·       Demonstrated competence in Mechanical design including development of lightweight metallic and composite mechanisms and structures

·       Experience with complete mechanical engineering lifecycle from design through manufacturing

·       Demonstrated understanding of material properties and structural analysis

·       Ability to work within a fast-paced research and development environment

·       Proficiency with Solidworks and Microsoft office suite
