Company Description:

Fauna Bio is using computational and functional pipelines to develop therapeutics from the extreme physiology of mammals. Our expertise in translational medicine, hibernation biology and cross mammalian biology/bioinformatics make us uniquely positioned to take advantage of the wealth of genomic information becoming available across a broad array of species for the purposes of novel drug discovery. Our larger goal is to improve the rate at which discoveries can be translated to humans by leveraging conserved biology across species.

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Vice President of Research with a focus on cardiometabolic indications to lead our internal research efforts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preclinical research, particularly in overseeing in-vitro and in-vivo assays for target validation. This individual will play a key leadership role in driving our research strategy, managing cross-functional teams, and advancing our pipeline of novel therapeutics.

3. Target Identification and Validation: Oversee the validation of novel targets generated with the Fauna Bio platform, ConvergenceTM. Evaluate potential drug targets using a variety of experimental approaches and technologies.

4. Assay Development: Direct the development and optimization of in-vitro and in-vivo assays to assess target function, efficacy, and safety. Ensure the reliability, reproducibility, and robustness of experimental methods.

5. Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and draw meaningful conclusions to guide decision-making and inform research priorities. Present findings to internal stakeholders and external partners, including pharmaceutical partners.

6. Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, and translational research, to advance lead candidates into preclinical development. Establish and maintain partnerships with relevant external research organizations and academic institutions.

7. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards for preclinical research.

8. Scientific Innovation: Remain current with latest scientific advancements, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape in cardiometabolic and ophthalmic disease research. Identify opportunities for scientific innovation and differentiation from existing pipeline programs in core disease areas.

Qualifications:

●    Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., pharmacology, biochemistry, molecular biology) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in preclinical research, preferably in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.

●    Demonstrated expertise in relevant diseases, with a track record of successful target identification and validation.

●    Strong leadership and management skills, with experience leading interdisciplinary research teams.

●    Proficiency in designing and executing in-vitro and in-vivo assays, including cell-based assays, biochemical assays, and animal models.

●    Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
