Summary:

As a CAD Drafter, you'll play a critical role in turning complex engineering concepts into detailed, precise designs. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, and fabrication teams to create detailed design and submittal drawings, ensuring that every project meets the highest standards for quality and functionality. Your expertise in CAD software and mechanical design principles will be key in producing drawings that guide the creation of mechanical equipment and systems across various projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate and Contribute: Partner with project managers, engineers, and drafting team members to interpret engineering sketches, specifications, and related documents and determine key design factors such as size, shape, and layout.
  • Design and Drafting Excellence: Utilize advanced CAD software to create detailed submittal and fabrication drawings that are clear, accurate, and ready for production. Update designs based on feedback and field dimensions to ensure they meet all project requirements.
  • Project Support: Assist project managers and engineers with material estimations, pricing, cut lists, and labor costs. Provide on-site support by gathering field information and sketching details for project refinement.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Conduct precise calculations, including angles, weights, surface areas, dimensions, radii, and tolerances. Ensure all designs meet client specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Material and Logistics Coordination: Order and verify the timely receipt of parts and materials, ensuring all components are available for the project to move forward without delays.
  • Research and Innovation: Investigate past projects and new technologies to support engineering solutions and improve the overall efficiency of designs. Stay updated on industry trends and innovations to enhance project outcomes.
  • Safety First: Follow safety guidelines and best practices outlined in the Shickel Corporation Safety Manual. Attend safety meetings and proactively address any unsafe conditions or practices.
  • Team-Oriented Approach: Demonstrate strong teamwork and collaboration with cross-functional departments. Uphold company policies and standards of behavior, contributing to a positive and productive workplace culture.
  • Project Quality Assurance: Ensure that every project complies with the Shickel Quality Management System, especially with detailing procedures and project documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) or equivalent, combined with 1-3 years of related experience in mechanical drafting or a similar field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in computer-aided drafting software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent), with a strong understanding of mechanical drawing principles and construction documents. Ability to operate a standard transmission vehicle and use various office and specialized software in a Windows-based environment.
  • Mathematical Proficiency: Ability to apply algebra, geometry, and trigonometry to solve complex design problems, including calculations for areas, volumes, proportions, and structural tolerances.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to effectively interpret technical documents, draft clear reports, and communicate with team members, clients, and vendors.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical abilities to assess design issues, resolve technical challenges, and make informed decisions based on available data.
