General Manager - Position will be located in St. Louis, Missouri 


Overview

Reports to VP of Regional Operations

 

Responsible for planning, leading, organizing, and controlling activities related to and necessary for a successful and profitable branch consistent with corporate direction, policies, procedures and objectives.

 

Responsible for employee churn rate, lease operator/driver recruitment, revenue growth, branch profitability, quality scores, budget compliance, loss prevention, and customer retention/churn. 

 

The General Manager is expected to make decisions consistent with the organization’s values and goals. Execution of position responsibilities must be consistent with corporate policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook. The General Manager supports the Corporate Vision and Values Statement in daily management activities.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Work directly with operations, fleet administration, driver recruitment, training, warehousing, planning, and dispatch.
  • Oversee household and commercial transportation, delivery operations, and overall logistics to ensure seamless execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Manage warehouse and facilities, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance with company and industry standards.
  • Implement consistent, well-documented training programs with measurable outcomes to enhance employee performance and operational excellence.
  • Oversee branch administration, including management support for credit and collections, billing, general accounting, accounts payable, and customer service.
  • Drive consistent revenue growth through effective resource planning and utilization.
  • Conduct revenue forecasting, budget planning, and expense control to optimize profitability.
  • Ensure quality compliance as measured by United’s and UniGroup’s quality scores, customer satisfaction reports, and internal surveys.
  • Lead Human Resource management, including wage evaluations, performance reviews, background checks, recruitment, policy compliance, disciplinary actions, and team-building initiatives.
  • Establish and monitor performance standards, defining criteria to measure progress against objectives.
  • Record and report performance, conduct annual evaluations, assess progress against objectives and standards, and identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop organizational structure, assigning and grouping employees into efficient and effective positions to support operational goals.
  • Maintain customer awareness, understanding clients’ businesses and accurately determining their needs.
  • Ensure company awareness, possessing in-depth knowledge of McCollister’s and UniGroup functions and services.
  • Exhibit operational proficiency, with the ability to plan and execute a broad range of services or design and deliver custom solutions to meet unique client needs.

Education

 

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

 

Experience

  • A minimum of 3+ years in warehouse management required.
  • Required warehouse experience including receiving, inspection, shipping, wireless inventory control, and data entry.
  • Position requires a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with automated WMS systems.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in the moving industry, with a preference for candidates with commercial moving expertise.
  • Industry awareness – informed and knowledgeable of the moving industry and its competitive landscape.
  • Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google G Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
