Are you local to Dayton or Cincinnati, OH? We are not offering relocation for this role. Local candidates only please

Software Engineer

Etegent Technologies is a rapidly growing, aerospace and defense technology company with facilities in Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. We are a multi-disciplinary mix of engineers, scientists, and management professionals with a passion for developing and commercializing technology solutions that address our customer's most significant challenges and opportunities; we strive to change the way people think and work.

The Position:

Etegent is seeking a Software Engineer to help transition data exploitation algorithms from R&D into useable software to benefit our Department of Defense (DoD) and Intelligence Community (IC) customers. This opportunity will involve application software development from conceptualization and implementation to delivery and sustainment for DoD and IC user groups. This position is based in our Dayton office with some work performed on-site in our customers’ facilities.

The ideal candidate will have experience in all phases of the software development lifecycle, be detail oriented, and have a passion for creating software solutions to enhance the capabilities of others. Experience working on-site to support either AFRL or NASIC is preferable.

The immediate focus will be working on projects in signal processing and algorithm efficiency or full stack development and deployment.

Days in the office: Local and 3-5 days in office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Write efficient, modular, and well-documented code.
  • Collaborate with machine learning scientists and engineers building data analytics tools.
  • Develop customized tool sets to accelerate machine learning data curation and quality control including machine assisted data labeling and quality checks.
  • Develop reliable machine learning pipelines to support research, training, evaluation, and deployment.
  • Build visualizations of complex numerical and scientific data.
  • Develop signal processing chains and algorithms to process large sensor data volumes with near real-time availability of results.
  • Advance a geospatial analytical tool suite for the Intelligence Community (IC), pushing state-of-the-art in Multi-INT data visualization and analytics.
  • Design and implement optimized, low-level code on embedded hardware
  • Design and implement end user applications that leverage machine learning algorithms.
  • Build and deploy machine learning systems/computer vision systems for analysts.
  • Architect user interfaces/APIs for sensor simulation, exploitation, and analytics.
  • Identify architectures and tool sets to support design implementations and ways to optimize throughput.
  • Develop database schema and application interfaces to scale solutions on high performance computing environments (HPC/Cloud)
  • Assist in monitoring and directing project schedules, resources, and costs.
  • Report on software development status and demonstrate software to customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or computer-related engineering field.
  • We are open to new graduates or varying levels of professional software engineering experience.
  • Previous experience in Software Engineering.
  • Object Oriented software development knowledge and experience.
  • Unit testing tools and methodologies knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with Linux OS.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong planning and capacity experience in a hands-on environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
  • 4+ years of experience in Software Engineering.
  • Database knowledge and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Python.
  • Experience or knowledge in Machine Learning and Machine Learning Pipelines.
  • Experience analyzing user requirements and translating to technical designs.
  • Ability to understand the requirements of designing or transitioning software in a production environment
  • Capacity to come up to speed quickly on different algorithms.
  • Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS)/geospatial standards, applications, and interfaces.
  • Strong knowledge of C++, Java, Java EE, HTML or JavaScript.
  • Strong knowledge of C# and the .NET Frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge of GPU and other embedded hardware
  • Experience programming embedded hardware
  • Knowledge and experience with WebGL, Web Map Service (WMS) and RESTful interfaces.
  • OpenGL, QT framework, and Web Services experience.
  • Experience scaling algorithms for high performance environments (Cloud/DSRC)
  • TS security clearance with active SCI adjudication.

The Candidate:

More so than seeking a candidate with specific training and experience, Etegent seeks a special type of person; someone with an innate curiosity and passion for learning and understanding, tempered by a recognition of the pragmatic constraints inherent in developing real solutions to real problems. They are flexible and adaptable, having the desire and ability to learn new skills and develop new capabilities to take on challenges outside their current realm of experience. We are seeking very sharp, curious, well-rounded, adaptable people who can learn and grow as required to confront the challenges at hand.

Working at Etegent:

At Etegent, you'll be a part of a fast-growing organization that combines a small-company family feel with big-company resources and opportunities. We work hard, but we also want you to play hard. Which is why in addition to your competitive salary, medical/dental/vision plan and a generous annual company 401(k) contribution, you'll enjoy the following perks:
