Job Title: Manager, Environmental Health & Safety

Job Location: Cambridge, Ohio

Job type: Full-time direct hire

As the Manager of Environmental, Health & Safety, you will play a pivotal role in championing the welfare of our plant employees, the community, and the environment. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of safety, health, and environmental aspects, ensuring strict adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.

The Cambridge plant is a cutting-edge site, where vertical integration is the cornerstone of our operations. We take pride in crafting excellence from the ground up – beginning with raw materials that flow into two state-of-the-art sulphonating plants, and seamlessly transitioning to an automated injection molding process that transforms resin into premium-quality bottles. This dynamic process lays the foundation for our high-speed bottle manufacturing and filling production lines downstream. Join us in this journey of innovation and efficiency, where your contributions will shape the future of our industry.

You will be part of the plant leadership team reporting directly to the Plant Director and indirectly to the company's Regional EHS and Sustainability Manager. You will also be a people manager, directly managing 3 direct reports (a coordinator, a specialist and a technician).

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Comprehensive EHS Programs: Oversee all safety and environmental initiatives within the plant, aligning them with government regulations and company standards. Develop and implement strategies to enhance EHS performance.

Compliance Assurance: Ensure rigorous compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as corporate EHS practices. Act as a liaison between the plant and regulatory agencies to maintain a transparent and cooperative relationship.

Project Management: Identify, design, and execute EHS-related projects to address safety and environmental challenges. Take charge of corrective actions for any EHS concerns that arise.

Sustainability Initiatives: Spearhead efforts to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the plant's carbon footprint. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive sustainable practices and innovations.

Training and Education: Conduct EHS training sessions to raise awareness among employees about safety protocols, environmental responsibilities, and regulatory compliance.

Emergency Preparedness: Lead the development and maintenance of the Emergency Preparedness Program, ensuring its effectiveness and alignment with industry best practices.

Inspections and Audits: Coordinate and lead both internal and external inspections and audits. Address findings promptly and develop strategies to continuously improve EHS performance.

Knowledge Transfer: Facilitate knowledge sharing across teams by leveraging your expertise gained from formal and informal training. Empower employees with EHS insights and best practices.

Workers Comp: Spearhead the comprehensive oversight of workers' compensation administration, playing a vital role in safeguarding the welfare of our workforce.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in EHS management, with a strong grasp of regulations and reporting obligations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a supervisory role within a manufacturing setting.
  • Extensive understanding of EPA and OSHA regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification as a safety professional (e.g., CSP) or industrial hygiene professional (e.g., CIH).

Over 2 years of experience in the food manufacturing industry, demonstrating a deep understanding of its unique EHS challenges.

Experience managing process safety management (PSM) covered processes/programs, and implementing PSM requirements

Experience leading root cause analysis investigations, and ensuring appropriate corrective and preventive actions are developed

Key Competencies:

Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively engage with cross-functional teams and regulatory agencies.

Problem-solving prowess to identify EHS concerns, develop strategies, and drive continuous improvement.

Strategic thinking to align EHS initiatives with organizational goals and industry trends.

Collaborative mindset to foster a culture of safety, environmental responsibility, and compliance.

Result-oriented approach to meet or exceed regulatory EHS standards while enhancing operational efficiency.
