Position Summary

Summary:

The advanced knowledge and skills required for this role include clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, collaboration, consultation, education, mentoring and change leadership. Functioning in this role, the individual is responsible for evaluating standards of practice and leading initiatives to improve the delivery of high quality, comprehensive and safe care. Collaborating with team members to design, implement, and measure safe, cost-effective best practices and promoting strategies to achieve optimal patient outcomes are key to this role.

Position Details

Detailed responsibilities:

Advocates for zero preventable harm by demonstrating keen attention to safety and quality practices by recommending and facilitating process and system changes to reduce the likelihood of errors and adverse events.

- Acts to achieve quality indicator target rates as determined by executive management. Participates in the identification, design, implementation and evaluation of system and practice standards to improve clinical knowledge and performance within the system.

- Collects and analyzes data that supports quality and patient safety performance improvement and research by identifying variations in patient care delivery and measuring clinical outcomes parameters. Collaborates with data analytics, information technology or clinical informatics for documentation or report needs.

- Remains astute of the data metrics that are publicly reported with a focus on improving unit and system-level outcomes.

- Proactively develops and enhances interdisciplinary partnerships. Maintains collaborative relationships and interacts with team members in a non-punitive manner that recognizes their developmental needs and promotes their understanding of opportunities, knowledge and reflective practice to positively impact performance improvement.

- Guides system changes with optimization for sustainment of quality and patient safety initiatives, monitoring compliance of standard work.

- Serves as a resource for quality improvement and research project development and implementation. Provides guidance for establishing rationale, criteria, thresholds, benchmarks, data sources, sample size, data collection and analysis, reporting of results, planned interventions and post-intervention follow-up plans. Identifies clinical concerns amenable to research with the ability to recognize and communicate variances in care and design methods to reduce the impact on the quality of care and cost. Evaluates research, collaborating to integrate valid findings into practice by encouraging the promotion of evidence-based care and optimal patient outcomes.

- Champion for evidence-based practice, clinical inquiry and nursing research. Fostering development of clinical judgement of health team members through role modeling, teaching, coaching, evidence-based practice, quality improvement projects and/or mentoring. Assists with educational initiatives as related to improvement in outcomes and quality of care.

- Demonstrates clinical expertise and working knowledge of evidence-based innovation to develop and implement plans of action to improve targeted areas for improvement. Maintains current professional knowledge, competencies, and contributes to the advancement of clinical practice at the unit/system, local, state, and/or national and international level. Coordinators will maintain oversight of specialty certification programs and accreditation (i.e. Chest Pain, Stroke)

- Reviews and updates policies and procedures as necessary. Is responsible for bringing awareness of all noted performance improvement opportunities, identified trends, and prioritizes needs with communication to unit and clinical quality leadership for any gaps in compliance.

Evaluates research found in sources on the basis of accuracy, validity, appropriateness for needs, importance, and social and cultural context. Has knowledge of research and capacity to interpret findings. Is accountable for self-engagement in educational activities related to specialty and professional practice.

Experience Essential:

- Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience in an acute care facility

Experience Preferred:

- Previous leadership experience

- Published author in peer-reviewed journal on topics related to specialty, evidence-based practice, research, or quality improvement

- Presentation (podium or poster) at a regional or national conference on topics related to specialty, evidence-based practice, research, or quality improvement

- Previous quality and patient safety experience

Certifications Preferred:

- Certification in Specialty of Nursing and/or Advanced Practice

Licenses Preferred:

- Current license as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Florida or within 12 months of hire
